I been following his page on Facebook and reading his site. I don't know what to think about all this yet. He needs to post better updates and keep his main website updated. Maybe a Strava app so people could follow his journey. So many people are offering to ride with him and offer support, but he replies to none of them.

He's in New Bedford now? 30 miles back the other way? In ONE DAY? Uh huh.

Anyway, here's the mythical 300 lb trailer. I doubt it's 300 lb but I also doubt I'd have any interest in dragging that thing more than 100 yards. Good grief.

One of his several FB posts of the other day asks for route help. Two places he says he must stop in are Philly and Pittsburgh. I just responded by telling him I will give him a route between those two cities. One that I have actually ridden while camping every night. Mentioned that a good portion of it is traffic-free. The price? $250, firm. Maybe I will update my post to explain that the price includes paper cue sheets and a RWGPS map.

Edit: I updated my FB comment and told him the price includes only the RWGPS map and that cue sheets will cost another $50 for the lot because they are labor-intensive, although I would consider coming down to $25 if he can justify it. I realized after my original comment that my cue sheets are from my PGH to PHL tour. He will allegedly be going the other way.

I see 4 two-liter pop bottles - 2 coke and 2 Pepsi. SMH. Not diet either.

Thats a ton of junk. That said, I have dragged both my kids in a trailer before, combined about 130 lbs. I doubt his trailer is any heavier. The only hard part was getting it moving, once it was it wasn't much different from not having a trailer except non-trivial hills and corners, and even then it wasn't a major problem.

And that black thing unfolded looks like it has a mirror with cocaine residue on it.

Seriously, and in his defense (which I cannot believe I just wrote), he could be using them as water bottles. While touring I have on occasion used empty soda bottles on days where my two water bottles and Camelback might not be enough to get me through long stretches where I didn't know if there would be places to get water. With that said, each of those stretches were longer than the total distance he has travelled to date. And inasmuch as he seems to easily be able to find commercial food establishments to charge his phone, that capacity, which also includes a thermos jug, is overkill, even for someone like him.

Well that pic explains the hoarder comment in one of his blog posts so well. What th'heck is the half filled milk crate for? And that little tote with bungee cords wrapped around it looks like it's filled with crap too. 4 near empty 2L bottles of soda pop? Is that so he doesn't have to water the plants when he has to pee? Surely he's not saving them for water, with all the frequent stops he's been making - one bottle should be sufficient, at least until he gets out west when towns are allegedly few and far apart.

I'm still waiting to see an actual route mapped out. I'm assuming he's been using a GPS on his phone, hence the reason to need to re-charge it so much. It shouldn't be hard to export it to his blog.

The needle on my whiskey tango foxtrot meter broke off the peg and is now whirling at 10,000 rpm trying to show the amount of baloney involved in this enterprise. The trailer takes the cake, why not one made from the rear half of a 72 ford truck ?

LMAO, I thought you were kidding... nope! No replies calling you a hater yet either, which is unusual for his page.

I see a former BFer who stomped off in a huff is also replying to that same post... with helpful information that is also being ignored.

And as @Willbird so eloquently stated, wtf does this mean? Obligations? I thought he was already in Newport? Then not, now he is? Doctor?

As a little update for today, I got started really late, in had to fulfill a few obligations today hoping to get a lot of that stuff put of the way this week so I can concentrate on just the ride Monday, and tuesday, and weds, thrus, fri, sat... you get the idea. Anyway I still rode 5 miles today to complete my goal to get to Newport proper. The doctor making me rest a couple of days threw things off. And I'm working on lessening my load on the trailer too. After Sunday my gear will be set up in the best way to help succeed and start getting real miles under the belt. The distractions will be lessened quite a bit before Monday so I can focus the way I want to.

Not only was I not kidding about making that FB post, I was not kidding about the substance. I did ride from PGH to PHL two years ago, camping every night. And a good portion of my route was car-free. Just trying to make a little cash money out of this thing.

You can't write that without naming names, mate. Don't make me wait until I get home.

I'm guessing this is what he was referring to, Neil's post.

He's now complaining that fixing his truck will cost more money than expected.

You know, I *HATE* jumping on this bandwagon, because losing weight depends so much on mental state and esteem, and I feel terrible about disparaging anyone that's trying to lose weight, but you can now count me in the "skeptics" column.

*sigh*.

Is he though? Other than SAYING he wants to lose weight, has he actually done anything to lose weight?

You know what's NOT a great strategy for losing weight? Eating all your meals at restaurants (including dessert) and riding 1-5 miles a day but not all days.

Point. And this "mandatory 2 days of rest" has gotten me concerned. Bicycling 5 miles, even at 560 pounds, at a slow pace (thinking... 8-10mph?), should not put so much stress on a person that they need to rest for two whole days. I'm almost 400 and I'm about to do 50 miles on my 16th day of riding in a row.

Yeah, but you've been riding for a while - think back to the very first time you hopped on a bicycle at 400 lb, or wherever you were when you started. That's basically where he is, only without the self discipline required to push himself a little.

I guess the part that's bugging me is how needy he is - he's already gotten almost 9k and he's just freeloading his way across ... uh, part of Rhode Island. He must be a heck of a charmer in person.
