Chaffing No! Jock Itch .. Oh Hell No

Ok you guys call this that and us women call it a yeast infection. Its where warm places on your skin meet sweat which creates the most amazing growing place for bacteria to spread into a yeast infection. Im curious in your experience what have you used to combat this. Please dont do a google search i want to know what YOU have done. If you think you know... just move along and ignore this thread. I dont want your reply. Thanks in advance.

Shower before and after ride and NEVER wear the same riding shorts twice without washing them.

Clean and dry riding shorts (cuissards) and liberal amount of baby powder. You could replace the baby powder with Gold Bond powder.

if you shower before a ride, pat dry your lower body and don't put your bibs on right away.

Try using different creams, I actually prefer no creams

a large selection of good bib shorts and jersey and use them in rotation. Hang dry all cycling clothing other than socks and gloves.

And a big one to me if I travel more than 30mins to a ride/race. Don't put the bibs on at home, put them on at the start of the ride and end of the ride. Use a large towel and change surfer style.... I don't want to sit in sweaty bibs on the drive home from LA or when getting food afterwards.

Corn starch only! With all the hygiene recommendations of course. My family doc turned me on to cornstarch years ago and its all I've ever needed. Anything with talcum powder in it has been linked to cancer in the lady parts just sayin'

Get out of sweaty shorts ASAP. Wear large, loose boxers around the house for air flow.

Lamisil, although AFAIK jock itch is basically the same as athlete's foot, a fungal infection not yeast, so I have no idea how effective it would be for ladybits.

It's called "yeast" but it's a fungal infection. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and I have not played one on TV

OK good to know. I wonder why the products are branded/marketed entirely separately for men/women?

mfgr makes more money.

I love that we're all adult enough to talk about these things.

I don't have lady parts, but I do like Gold Bond. Will try corn starch. Howard Garrett, The Dirt Doctor, and his followers swear by it.

Jockey brand performance boxer briefs also work well. You may want to try a few brands to see which works best. I bought the Reebok version and didn't like them as much.

Corn Starch is the main ingredient for a lot of baby powders, and then they add the perfume. So Corn Starch is basically baby powder without the perfume. And it is normally less expensive, too.

To be honest, I often have more issues with chafing when I'm wearing normal clothes than when I'm wearing by bike short (bibs).

I'll also use some cocoa butter when I don't have the bike shorts on to help prevent chafing.

After a shower, use a fan to finish drying your nethers. A hair dryer can work, but be careful of the heat.

Athletes Foot spray! Daktarin... Quick and efficient, and if it doesn't burn then you know you've missed a bit...

So for those that have gotten a "Saddle Sore", clogged pore, ingrown hair, or whatever you want to call it when you have a little sore that gets infected (and filled with pus), what do you do with it?

Leave it alone to let it try to re-absorb itself?
Lance it, and disinfect it?
Other?

I think I get more little spots like that from wearing normal clothes than riding on my bike with the bib shorts.

If I don't end my ride at home, I will go to a bathroom (not a gross one) and use some towel paper to "dry up" If it's really hot and humid out. I will use towel paper to form a barrier between the skin.

As far as the sore goes, ColaJacket. I let it run it's course. If it hurts to much, or becomes painful, I will put a really hot wash cloth on it to bring it to a head. Then I will take care of it.
