Garmin 520 or 1000.

Western is having a sale and I want a gps that indicates who is calling so I can choose to stop or not. 520 is 20% off and the 1000 is 35% off. Ends this weekend.

Not sure i like the non touch screen of the 520 but I think I may like the strava segments.
The 1000 is touch screen but huge. It has a better mapping and provides 3 routes based on desired length of ride.

It does not have the strava segment advisor.

I have the 510 now and while I like it. I prefer to get the phone call advisory option as some are important. And it is a hassle stopping just to see who is calling.
I guess I could get a fit bit for 149 and it will do the same thing.

What gps would you get the 520 or 1000. I posted in electronics section and no response

1000 has strava segments.. it's just firmware (update)
After having the 810 and 1000 for awhile, I have gotten use to the touch screen.. I can be seen swiping my 520 all the time, but the 520's form factor is really nice.

if you are really used to the touchscreen get the 1000... the 520 is ok if you have DA9070 Di2 shift levers and the eww001 because the hidden buttons on the DA can be used to change screen on the 520(it's handy). I have both but use the 1000 more often. The 520 pretty much sits on my TT bike. If you have a lot of gadgets on your bikes like I do.. the touch screen is nice for connecting and zero calibration for things like power meters etc.

Cool thanks. At 35% off the 1000 would be a good buy

I have 2 bikes with cadence and speed sensors. The 510 won't bike them both up. I have to activate the sensor and do a search each time I switch bikes. Hopefully the new Garmin will recognize either sensor without having to go in to search mode.

I don't have a 510... but I would think it would auto search as my 520/1000 both do. Do you have them sensors on enable ? As I have 2 speed sensors, different power meters,2 eww001, etc. Once they are activated they usually are found.

yes I enabled them. The light flashing and it registers the 510 only keeps one bike and won't recognize the other when it switch. Not a huge deal but a hassle none the less.

I have a 1000 and various sensors on various bikes. I don't even think about sensors anymore, I just get on the bike and ride and the 1000 figures out what's in use and what is not. I only have experience with the 1000, but I really like it. And mine does do Strava segments.

Can you post up a photo of the way you have the 1000 mounted ? I have 2 out front mounts for my 510 but not sure if it will stick out enough to clear the stem or not with the 1000

depends.. I like the newer cadence and speed sensors (no magnets).. regardless the 1000 should come with a new out front mount. The Garmin 510 one will not work.. other off brands.. it may or may not work. (probably not if they were for the 510)

Garmin 520 or 1000.

My 500 still works and the Apple Watch gives me so many other useful functions so I went with it for the call and IM notifications rather than upgrading Garmin. I'm loving the Apple Watch and can run Strava on it if I choose to.

I also have the K-Edge mounts, but I like the cheap SRAM ones better.

Since the order has been made, here's a challenge.

What's the brand and make of the hub in the Garmin screen's reflection?

for phone notifications, maybe consider one of the Pebble smartwatches... they're as low as $70.. and they tell time.

are you setting up two different bikes in the profile section of hte 510? if so it should let you pick up the different sensors. You do have to switch them based on what bike your riding (profiles) but its easy

No I didn't set up two bike profiles. Guess I should look in to that. In case the 1000 doesn't work or or need a back up now lol

Funny... I have a cheap SRAM one AND the k-edge dual mount and prefer the k-edge. They both do the job, but I can mount my go pro under the k-edge. I got the XL, which is sized for the 1000 (my 800 has plenty of room)
