been away a while, wanted to say hello again

A few years ago I used to be a regular on here, it was one of the things that kept me motivated when I was commuting to work and taking on cycling challenges. I commuted 12 miles a day, I watched cycling programs, a did a 4 day (450 mile) trip to Germany, I had cleats, an indoor trainer, I bought gels, udder cream, Sheldon Brown was my go to site etc.

I then kind of fell out of love with it. I had a crash and got run over on some ice. I got a new bike (tourer with drop bars) that I never really liked riding. I moved away for work. I saw the rise of lycra clad people cycling 30mph everywhere and I didn't fit in. I stopped finding the joy in cycling.

Recently my son has started to ride his bike and I bought an beaten up second hand cruiser so I could ride with him on the tracks. So together with the dog, he and I have enjoying a few rides out in the country. Mostly a 3-5 mile ride, then a stop at a pub/cafe, then the return leg. We cycle slow, we chat, we stop to let the dog splash in a river or play with other dogs, I smile while cycling again.

Last night I found myself watching a tv programme about a lady training to compete in Mountain biking at the Commonwealth games. It was in Gaelic (old scottish language) with subtitles, but I didn't mind. Today I find myself back on this forum. Tomorrow I'm going to commute again.

I just read that Tom Stormcrowe died, is that true? That's so sad if so.

Welcome back, Steve. It's good to see you again.

And yes, we lost Tom. It's very sad.
