Well today I noticed what I suppose is a very minor detail, but got me pretty excited....

I'm 6'1". Since getting married (2010), I've gone from 195lbs to about 225lbs. Despite still feeling pretty good, I know I'm woefully out of shape. At 195lbs I looked and felt great, so that's what I'm shooting for again. My wife and I got into biking earlier this year for the first time, I'm hopeful that portion control and regular biking will help me get back to 195 again.

One of my clients is a law office in a two-story building. The floors are connected by two fairly steep flights of stairs, and they have always served as a depressing reminder of how out-of-shape I am.....a couple quick climbs up those stairs always makes my legs feel like concrete, and the last few steps seem to suck the energy right out of me. Today, I visited this client for the first time in probably 2+ months. "Hmm, I wonder how those stairs will treat me since I've been biking......" Throughout the afternoon I had to climb the stairs probably 8 or 10 times, and I barely felt it! WOOHOO!!!!!! This is the first really noticeable change since I've started biking (well, other than my rides getting easier and faster). As someone who generally detests most forms of exercise, positive results are not something I'm accustomed to.

Just wanted to share my excitement, simple as it may be. Now I want to go ride some more!

Ha! For whatever reason, no matter how much I ride, stairs still suck.

Good that you're doing it with your wife - it's hard to diet on your own (I say diet but I just mean smarten up your eating)
