If you are chronically dehydrated, even though you make good efforts to stay hydrated, you might want to talk to your doctor. There are a number of medications and conditions that can lead to dehydration. One that comes to mind is diabetes, but there are others. Not trying to diagnose over the internet, just suggesting you get a checkup and mention the dehydration issue.

Oh dear! I do believe I may be a classic wanker!

I like/want to go faster than I am, strictly speaking, capable of going. Intellectually I know, slow and steady and all that, but I like to wheeeeeeeeeee!!!

I feel ya! And I've had that thought as well. (I almost mentioned in previous posts that I've been tested for diabetes a handful of times in my life because of this, but I didn't want to confuse if it wasn't commonly known that excessive thirst can be a symptom.)

Updates!

Just got back from my morning ride.

I started with the water as soon as I woke, so by the time I set out I'd had at least 3 cups plus a cup of coffee. My stomach isn't very good in the morning but I managed to choke down about half a yogurt. I took with me my usual water bottle, and instead of the second, I took a bottle of coconut water with pulverized pineapple added (it sounded like it might taste like something boozy and delicious). I started sipping water as soon as my spit got thick, which was less than a mile in! I tried to keep a more steady pace rather than my usual zooming and coasting.

At the turnaround stop I was already slightly nauseated, so I stood there for a good ten minutes, sipping water and such. A mile later my stomach was more upset, so I ducked down an alley and found a wall to lean on and broke out the coconut water. Drank about 3-4 ounces, waited about 5 minutes, and felt almost just fine. I swung down to get donuts as usual and rode home, 10.2 miles.

So it seems to be an electrolyte thing, perhaps! It's good information to take to my doctor when I ask him about this nonsense.

Also, I had a bit more success at standing to pedal! I found that my legs wanted to make a stair step movement rather than the normal round movement, so it was a little lurchy and jerky. Baby steps....

Hmm. No, I guess not. I've just always assumed.
