Wasn't Sure I'd See This Day

Hi, everybody. This morning I took my first ride since August 20, 2013. It wasn't long, eight miles, but considering that only six weeks ago I wasn't sure if I'd ever ride again or that, if I did, it would be with both of my own legs, it may as well have been a first Century. I have a lot of work ahead of me to get back in Saddle Shape and start re-building mileage, but I can't describe how good it feels inside to be back on a bike and out on the roads. Thanks for letting me share and happy weekend!

8 miles is long when you haven't ridden for a while. Keep up the hard work and enjoy every mile.

Thanks, everybody! I'd say that it felt awesome but that wouldn't be quite honest. It hurt, lol. But it was a good kind of hurt.

I couldn't ride for 10 months with a broken heel bone. It took me 4 weeks to get to 8 mile rides. After 12 weeks riding, I still struggle to get 50 miles a week in but it's still something.

Well done! 8 miles is not to be sniffed at. My regular spin is about that but I haven't done it in so long I'd struggle with it now. Keep it up and your century might be for real!

Hey, Jethro. It's frustrating, isn't it? I mean, at some point, you started riding and had to go thru all of the "new rider blues". But you got thru them and kept on truckin'. Then, "BAM!", an injury/illness pays a visit, knocks you out of the saddle, and you're starting over all over again. I'm not sure if it's determination or gluttony for punishment. Lol

One day and one mile at a time. That's all we can do.

Actually it's determination to punish oneself.
