Ain't that the truth! The battery in my 800 stopped working for long rides (it would die about the 5 hour mark)... $10 and some screwdrivers and Amazon prime had me back in business in less than 48 hours.

Live segments sounds nice... and uploading via your phone sounds nice, just not $500 nice.

Well $285 via Amazon +$5 for prime one day shipping...... auto upload is nice. Live segments, well frankly after having them for a year they are only occasionally worthwhile. Those few times where instant feedback has helped me gain KOM's or better standings on the leader board.

Yeah, I'll just stick with the 800 till it dies then. I do like the 800 much more than the 500 though. Bigger screen, touch screen and waaaaaay faster response, my 500 always seemed laggy. (My son uses it now)

When I load a route, mine tells me about 50 feet past the intersection that I was supposed to turn back there....then snickers at me!

Picked up a Barfly 4 outfront mount......well that works however I think it is off 1° Played on the CX bike last night and the new device seemed to mostly work as expected. At the end of the ride it congradulated me for a new PR of riding the long distance of 8 miles.
Came home and transferred a bunch more data to the unit from My Garmin acct. What a clunky process.

Another torture clinic session last night, somewhat encouraging to see my numbers increasing slightly on the ergometer. I consistently weigh in at 95.4 kg, need to get that down but it just doesn't want to budge.

Apparently while clamped in the trainer last night I broke a spoke on my rear wheel. This is my old RS10 wheel, I replaced them in 2014 when I broke a spoke but figured it might be OK for indoor work without bumps. Guess not. Same as last time, a NDS spoke breaks off just inside the nipple. You can see that the spoke bends out at the nipple, so the spokes just fatigue at the bend. Shimano doesn't make these spokes anymore, and even if I track down and replace them all (they are straight pull), the rear wheel is only 20 spokes, not enough for someone my size IMO.

So, looking for a training wheel, preferably 32 spoke, at least 28. Just something economical. Any recommendations? Thanks.

I haven't been out in a couple days and had a weird-Inception like dream about cycling. Oddly the first thing that made me realize it was a dream wasn't the fact the road started to curve upward with other cyclists jumping over me. What made me realize it was a dream was that the man was with me and he doesn't even own a bike.

I went to my bike shop and paid $199 for a rear wheel which stopped my spoke issue (it is a 32 spoke wheel).

I did this for a rear wheel for a road tire before I went tubeless, but once I went tubeless it became my trainer wheel. So far no broken spokes. This is not a deep V wheel as it is half the height of my 33mm Rolf wheels

Gosh I hate being under the weather (sinus and ear infection)..... haven't felt like doing much after work but going to bed (not even eating dinner). I also haven't had the gumption to get on the bike today even on the trainer.

Bleh, bleh, gripe, gripe.

I know it could be worse as it could be an injury or something else that keeps me from riding for longer than a few days.

grumble, grouse, gripe.

That sounds like a good approach. Last night I ended up ordering a wheelset from Chain Reaction Cycles. They had these DT Swiss wheels on clearance:

https://www.dtswiss.com/Wheels/Road-Wheels/R-24-Spline

Got the set for $150 total. The rear is only 24 spokes, I would have preferred more, but they rate the set for 110 kg. I'm 95, figure 10 for a loaded bike, so I'm 5 under and hope to drop a bit more. Hopefully good enough for a while training and back up purposes. Didn't really need the front, but at the price, good enough.

Just heard that this will be a above normal temperature November here in great white north. What gets me peeved is that I just spent $300 on 45nrth Wolvhammer winter cycling boots. They fit so well, I was surprised that I had plenty of room to add 2 pairs of socks and what not. With my wide feet that has never been an option with anything I wear. Still excited for winter fat bike riding.
