2017 Goals and Ambitions

I'll start.
Missed my goal this year by a thousand miles.

2017 I shall ride for over 6000 miles.

As of this date I've just one century on the calendar. Spokane Tour de Cure in June.

I'll ride a full season of CX next fall if I'm able.

What are your goals? Go!

I was injured for almost all of 2016 and have just been cleared to start back activity. I have no idea if I'll be able to work myself back to full go or not. However, let's pretend I can!

1 - Get to my healthiest bf% that I can maintain.
2 - Work myself up to doing a weekly, before work, 40 miler.
3 - Do one other 20 miler during the same week, possibly it being a commute.
4 - Do a form of exercise 5 days out of a week.
5 - Eat properly

All low noob goals,

Ride 1000 miles. This will be my first full year of biking since I was a kid. (680 in '16 from Memorial Day to Present, when I bought the bike) I'm hoping for 2000, but at this point I'll start

Purchase Road Bike. Have had my eye on a few, but waiting until spring for the weather to improve. My current bike is a Trek Shift 3, which I enjoy, but I'd like to get something with drops and a higher riding position that'll let me increase my speed more as my fitness continues to improve.

10,000 ft of elevation. Again, another very minor number for most BF.com users, but had about 4500 this year so another doubling of the numbers. Should probably aim higher here as my first 30 or so rides had 0ft elevation according to Strava. Once I got my Garmin, I started getting more elevation numbers, as for their accuracy, I'm not sure. Michigan is relatively flat where I live, and so I won't be climbing too much. Still, climbing is still a tough challenge and one I'd like to keep improving in.

Ride at least once every month of 2017. While March-November will be a breeze, December-February will be a challenge. I rode 3 times this December, but I still haven't perfected my cold winter riding. Even when get the layers right, my throat starts to get sore breathing in the cold air which limits my distance considerably. I have a balaclava but I'm not sure how much it helps. If I could solve this, my winter riding would increase tenfold. I've also stayed away from riding on snow, which obviously limits the winter riding as well. I have an exercise bike that I ride whenever, however that isn't part of the goal or my riding goals.

Lose 60 lbs. I lost about 80 from October 2015 to Mid-November 2016, with about a 10 lb gain through the holidays. The 60 figure is likely a bit too positive, I lost the first 80 mainly with diet and light exercise (mainly the cycling). While I'll be increasing the exercise in 2017 and even tighten up the diet, I suspect the lbs will be much harder to drop than the previous ones. Have to set it at something though and that'd put me in the lower level of Clydesdale and ultimately where I set my goal off when I decided to get healthier.

Good luck to everyone with their goals in 2017. Let's do it!

Better manage my schedule to juggle, cycling and work commitments

Work got in the way of a couple of bucket list MTB events i wanted to do in 2016, (Angel Fire NM downhill national and Mammoth Mountain Kamikaze downhill) --- so these events are back on my personal goal list

Am aiming to increase my time on the velodrome by a large amount -- Masters track worlds is in California this year -- this admittedly may be a bridge too far, but i would like to increase my performance in local events to the point that a trip to Masters Nationals would not be a total embarrassment

Do some fun rides with friends and family, both on and off road

My NSNG weight loss approach has been slow and steady with occasional plateaus and periods where the scale doesnt move -----
So for me another goal is to keep reminding myself that i'll get there sooner or later, but to be patient-- im a fast gainer, but slow loser in the weight loss arena, but as long as progress is still being made, dont fret

Work less. Play more.

Here's my preliminary goals for 2017. Average 20 miles a day. Longer rides on the weekends and a statewide bike tour (450 miles in a week) this summer should make it easier come November/December when starts to get cold.

1. Less Distance. I plan on shooting for an even 10,000 for 2017-- that's the target, not the goal. I set a goal of 20 a day for 2016 (7,320 miles) and then overshot it by 4,500 miles.

2. Less elevation. I averaged 1,419ft per ride in 2016, and began to feel something like "climbing burnout." Yeah, I know everybody seems to think that climbing is cycling, but those people don't seem to do 400,000+ feet a year.

3. Explore more. I've passed over some segments so, so, so many times. A change of scenery will undoubtedly do me good.

4. Rest. I fully intend to rest 2 days per week during 2017. 5 days max on the bike, 2 days off.

and lastly,

5. More Metric Centuries. It's a comfortable distance-- I did 30 rides of 100-130k in 2016, and for 2017 I'd like to do 52, one a week. I did three Imperial centuries and two double metrics in 2016, and have no plans to do either this year. Maybe it's just me, but 100+ miles solo can be pretty tough mentally.

My goals for 2017: I want to ride in three (Finger Lakes, Central NY, and Saratoga) I am close to being a champion so I can ride in any of the TDC without having to do seperate fund rasing.

I want to discover at least 6 new bike trails this year. I am not the biggest fan of riding in traffic. I alread have several trails I really want to try.

I want to go on a couple of bike rides with my nephews. I love these guys so much, they are so fun to ride with.

I want to ride atleast 100 each week from May - September.

I want to be a better prepared rider. I don't want to hold my breath in hopes, I don't get a flat or pop my chain or anything. I want to know how to fix my flats, chains and what ever other issue may come up.

Thats about it. God Willing, I should have no trouble hitting my goals this week.

My goals for 2017 are to ride at least 2000 miles, ride a metric century, then ride a full century.

I also would like to lose 20 lbs and get down to 225.

After 20 consistent years of cycling, setting goal is like a newbie riding thing. After 90,000 miles, I just enjoy riding my bike.

I'm not giving resolutions. I will state what I WILL be doing this year.

I will lose another 50 pounds by summer to make my bike riding better. I choose to lose weight to have fun doing things like bike riding! I might even go shirtless this year at the pool :O

I will be doing several metric century's and will do at least one 100 mile ride in a day.

I will be riding the Great Alleghany from Pittsburgh PA all 150 miles down to Cumberland MD.

I will be exploring several new trails that I have yet to ride on. One in southern VA and one in Ohio that goes through Columbus and up to Cleveland. There's also a trail in Maine that really interests me. If I can make time, the Katy trail looks really cool too!

My goal in 2016 was 3,000 miles I ended up with 4,817 and did not ride the last half of Dec. because I tweeted my back. So, for 2017 I am aiming for 4,000 and see where I end up. I also want to ride faster than last year and break 50 mph on a decent, this year I hit 48.7 mph.

I read, Goals and Ambitions.

Goal, cycle to either Ocean. I have 2 options. Ottawa for Canada day (150th), then east to the Atlantic. Or, fly to Edmonton where my heavy (touring) bike is. Then west to the Pacific.
Mileage, similar to this (my first) year. 14,000km. With a relatively light Endurance road bike, going for a rip will be fun! And a longer time spent on my road tour. From 4 weeks (2016) to 6-8 weeks.

Getting closer to the spirit of the forum. I know you are still kinda new to this forum and may not get that many here find these sorts of threads motivational. Tell what out of the ordinary ride you have planned this coming year.

Continue my riding streak of 20 years, making it 21.

25 centuries in one year, 12,000 ft century, fastest rides ever in 2016. Not aiming for anything and nothing is out of the ordinary anymore, I'm happy to just ride my bike after the been there done that over the last 20 years.

But I do like the guy's attitude, same one I have. But like many others, I don't set goals, I just do what I do.

As stated earlier, nothing is out of the ordinary after 20 years. Centuries on hybrids, road bikes, tandems, fast paved rides on MTB with knobbies, MTB rides to the highest point of the local mountain range, rides to the highest point on road bikes, double metrics, climbing centuries, flat centuries, steel bikes, aluminum bikes, carbon bikes, build my bikes, build my wheels, ride on streets, trails, dirt trails, organized rides, self supported rides, rides out of the state, rides out of the country.........

I did close to 8000 miles one year and that was too much. I'm not aiming to top that. It was really for no good reason other than to say I did a high mileage year. I was in better condition doing 4000 miles with much more intense riding.

Only thing I have not done is ride a unicycle and I don't see that happening!

I would like to lose 40 lbs which would bring my total to 100 lbs lost. I would like to keep it off mostly through diet and bikes.

100 miles in one day. I've never done that, but I'm 57 and I think I need to do that while I still can. And NO SMOKING for the entire 100 miles!

I've done the Katy Trail end-to-end the last 6 years and plan to do it again this year. I do a supported tour in mid-June and it's great. Below is the web site for last year's ride. They haven't announce 2017 yet but should be doing so shortly. If planning to do this ride, make sure to sign up on March 1st. It's been known to fill up during the first day.
https://mostateparks.com/2016KTRide

For 2017 we'll be travelling from Clinton to St. Charles.

Other than that ride, I plan on doing at least 4,000 miles, one century ride, and 2 half marathons.
