My new incentive to loose weight

Wasn't feeling right last week so decided to check my blood pressure. 185/115. Was one of the little portable machines for the home. Felt it was maybe malfunctioning. First three readings all the same, then started to drop. Went to CVS to try their machine to get a "second opinion", 184/117. Went to the ER. By the time i left three hours later it had dropped to 146/92 with no medication. Next day my doctor put me on BP medicine for two weeks to get it under control. My last physical was in June and was 138/88. Office job and not exercising like I should are the main contributing factors. I'm 46, 6'1" and weigh 235. Doctor said need to exercise 30 min a day and drop 30-40 lbs and cut out sodium. Had been eating a packet of cheese grits every morning for breakfast. Read the nutritional chart and saw it had 460mg of sodium per pack. I've cut out alcohol for the time being till I can drop some weight.

The past few years as I have been losing massive amounts of weight, I've been keeping a steady eye on the nutrition labels. It's amazing how much salt is in some of our foods that we take for granted is healthy. This along with fat content has been high on my list of controlling. It is very easy to go above the daily recommended sodium intake.

I "love" how creative they get to hide the truth about ingredients.

"Evaporated cane juice" instead of "sugar" is one of the worst I have seen.

I could see them putting "Evaporated sea water" instead of salt!

and some ppl object to "regulations" cuz they are job killers. never mind the corporate ppl killers hiding their poison. the whole purpose of food labeling is so we know what we are consuming & can make educated decisions. fabricating new ways to deceive us shouldn't be tolerated

Sadly, these tricks are being used by the same companies that claim to be "healthy" or
"good corporate citizens"

Trader Joe and Whole Foods being two that jump to mind.

BTW, there is already a regulation about it, but these companies are skirting the law by doing it.

Remember, salt is a critical electrolyte, can't cut it all out. If you're craving something salty you may be cutting too much out.

I hope to LOSE weight so my clothes feel LOOSE.

I got on scale today and since my motorcycle accident in Oct..I've gained weight on top of weight gained thanks to more sedentary job and long commute. I have finally gotten my physical therapy rolling steadily and have begun to walk on breaks at work as much as my body can tolerate.

Will be getting on bike on Trainer during week a time or two as well to try and boost my active calories.

When I was commuting (which I HEARTILY recommend doing as much as you can), I hung out in the commuting forum here, and logged my miles on their commute miles thread. It's a great way to see how many miles you're putting in and a nice motivation to ride.

Keep at it

I started cycling recently to lose weight, started in January (i say it every year but this years its potting along slowly. I'm 5'9' and started ate 103kg, (226Lb), now i'm down to 96kg (211Lb).. nothing brilliant, but the right direction, My first objective is 90kg. I do the same cycle rout every Sunday of 14.2 km up and the same down, my up time has gone from 2 hours 25 min. to 1 hour 45 min. the Down bit from 37 min. to 32 min. As there is very little peddling on the down hill, I don't expect to improve much... But I want to get below 1 hour 20 min. on the up....

As well as the cycling I'm watching food more carefully, cutting out fried stuff, increasing fruit and veg.. staying away from snacks... nothing to drastic, juicing a little.....and even still a few beers... but keeping it sensible..

It's not dieting, but changing few things..
