Goal 375 MTD 53

8-1 25
8-3 28

This was the hardest ride I have had so far. The first 10 miles were into the teeth of a constant 35mph wind with gusts over 50mph. Normally on that section of trail I ride in 5-6th gear on the middle front sprocket, today I was riding in 1-3. There are 0 windbreaks. Brutal is all I can say about it, at least it was not hot. The last 18 miles were a blast though, riding with that tailwind! I averaged 20.2mph for the last 18 miles, that is flat flying for me. I was having so much fun I rode 8 miles past my Jeep, I had to call for a ride to get back though I was not up for fighting another 8 miles of that wind lol.

August goal is 300.

8/1 = 14.3
8/3 = 17.1 Longest ride to date! Felt like I could've gone longer, but I could see storms building.

MTD = 31.4

I think I'm going to set a goal of 400 miles this month. I can do it if I up my morning rides from 10 miles to 15, and do it every day. I know some mornings get rained out, but if I put in a few more miles every day for August & September, I can get really close to my 2,000 mile goal by October and then just coast to it. So far August 1 was rained out, but I have 25 miles for the month so far.

Monthly Goal = 250
Weekly Goal = 63

8/1 — 7.5 and 6.3 — Prerides of the course for this Sunday's MTB race
8/3 — 41.5 — Longer gravel ride with some good climbs training for Strava Gran Fondo metric century (on gravel)
8/6 — 3.9 — Beginner MTB race, thwarted by drive train failure (BOOM then skating/dropping chain) and flat tire. Not my day.
8/7 — 63.7 — Followed up my MTB race defeat by completing the Strava Gran Fondo challenge, on gravel (60-70% gravel)
8/11 — 5.2 — MTB before horribly boring 6 1/2 hour meeting, after putting on new chain and cassette
8/13 — 28.9 — Gravel ride
8/15 — 22.2 and 19.9 — Gravel rides to and from convocation for work ~20 miles from home
8/18 — 20.9 — AM dirt
8/20 — 9.4 and 12.2 — road on old steel Trek
8/25 — 26.1 — Gravel and road ride, gravel hill training with loose dirt and ground ashpalt, resulting in fall and minor road rash
8/27 — 35.2 — My first USA Cycling race, against Cat 4/5 road riders on dirt and gravel. A challenging and humbling experience

MTD — 302.9

Goal 400

My goal is 400 miles again this month. I am trying to do more hills, and probably will cut into my distance totals

8/3 34.16 mile (LifeTaker - Specialized Allez Sport Ultegra road bike) - Worked on climbing a couple of 1-2 mile hills....and then back DOWN!!!

I did another 15 this morning rather than just 10, but tomorrow looks like a rest day since it's going to be raining & stormy all stinkin' day long. Wife wants us all to do some house cleaning, so I had planned to get up at like 6 AM and go on a ~20 mile ride and be back home by 8, but since it'll be raining I'm just going to sleep in a bit.

Ty! It is! And I feel so much better after this ride than my 19 mile ride over much less elevation. Just feels awesome to have noticeable improvement over just a few weeks/rides.
