What did I learn in the end? Lean protein, good fats, healthy carbs. More specifically: modestly sized meals consisting of lots of produce, a bit of lean meat now and then, and grains that haven't been bleached and pulverized into submission. Also, olive oil is good, and snack on nuts and dates.
Don't we all know this by now? It's really no earth-shattering conclusion, but if you find something that works for you, and you can stick to it, that's the trick.

--And I'm convinced my ethnic heritage is part coffee bean, part bourbon.

There is so much research showing the health benefits of coffee, it's almost unscientific not to have an infuser. If it has any meaning at all, a paleo diet should stand for, cook your beef to "well done," even if you have to char it over a campfire. You know how much you pay for a good roma tomatoes and burrata salad sprinkled with olive oil and red wine vinegar and drizzled with a little balsamic vinegar in a fancy Italian restaurant? I can make a better one for a few dollars (let me know if you want the secret ingredient). And, don't sell aged and stinky cheeses short in a healthy diet.

Now you'll think of me every time... just sprinkle a little mustard powder (and a tiny bit of celery seed if desired) before adding the oil and vinegar and you'll see why some vinaigrettes are the best you've ever tasted...

The coffee part I am on board with. Stinky cheese and vinegar - I think fasting would be preferable.

My own experience roughly mirrors what the guy in the article found. A "Mediterranean" combination of foods works fairly well for me ... nearly completely unprocessed foods consisting of veggies and fruits, nuts, legumes, fish, occasional "white" meats, rare "red" meats, olive oil, rare inclusion of whole grain bread, with occasional cheating. Generally smaller portions, smaller meals, more-frequent "grazing" (than the typical "three meal" approach folks in the U.S. have grown up with). Almost always prepared by me. Fairly high in naturally occurring fats, proteins, with more-complex (lower-glycemic) carbs when carbs do exist. Food as fuel, tied to the level of exercise, and in modest portions/frequency.

Combined with consistent, regular exercise (though not necessarily truly vigorous exercise), I've experienced both the best performance and the best feeling of any diet+exercise combination that I've done over the past four decades. Better still, when exercise gets more targeted, wide ranging ("cross" training), with interval training interspersed liberally in the plan.

As the guy suggests, though, I too can't say whether it'll work as well for others as it has for me.
