I will say good one everyone who has been able to stay on Keto and perform at a level they are happy with. Myself I have given up on it and IF just can't perform on the bike and was tired and cranky all the time. For close to a month I have gone sugar and booze free and after a week of headaches and light headed I feel better than I ever have. I am tracking calories and am loosing weight. I find this structure works way better for me and I don't consider not eating sugar a diet. Again congratulations on those that have found success on Keto and IF.

It sounds like you didn't give it a chance. Everybody goes through a period of discomfort in the beginning. That's just your body transferring from running on one food source to another. It isn't permanent, and it isn't lethal. The body is a remarkably adaptive organism if you give it time.

@youcoming good for you on continuing to lose weight without going to these extreme measures that are required for keto. Tracking calories is the best way to go about losing weight. Way to go!!

I was on Keto for almost five months and it just wasn't worth it. Like I said congratulations to those who can function on it, I wasn't waiting any longer for my body to become fat adapted I was not happy with performance on the bike. I was skinny but couldn't sustain any power.

After 3 weeks I'm down 15 pounds already! Now on my 4th week and hoping to keep it going to lose another 30. I started at 225 the 2nd week of January, now at 210, and hoping I can get below 180, which is where I need to be to not be considered overweight for my height of 5' 11".

When I first started running and cycling several years ago I just barely got below 190 once, I think the scale read 189.8 or something like that. But then it steadily started going back up as my eating habits were terrible.

Technically Keto is no carbs (< 50gms), but there is modified keto and/or low carb diets where some carbs are tolerable.

Keto is generally practiced by those who need to lose a great deal of weight, e.g. overweight or obese, and want to jump-start their weight loss. I hover around 12% and practice low or no carbs 1-2 times/week.

I try to stay at 20g carbs or below. Pretty successful at it. If you do get the "Keto Flu" increase your electrolytes. If you are feeling like crap get a shot of pickle juice in you. It works. I had it about 3 weeks in, just felt dizzy and headaches and all bad enough to want to quit. I looked up my symptoms and found that pickle juice would pick me back up, but long term I needed to increase my electrolytes. I take mine, in pill form, religiously as I don't want to feel like that again. I've only ridden indoor on the trainer lately. I don't feel that I have lost any power or stamina, but it wasn't that great going into this diet as it was.

I started at 228 My goal weight is 180 and I am currently at 210. I've stalled a bit lately and I'm not sure why. I'm still working on it and trying to stay the course.

What kind of riding are you doing. When I was low/no carb I was in season training for track sprinting state and national masters. I did really well and continued to get faster. But that was sprinting, so short efforts. At season end I got back on the road for some fast paced social riding. For those rides, my body couldn’t keep up the energy needs from fat and I had to supplement with a gel to keep me motoring up to the end. While fat fueling is great, there are limitations for the active person

The moment I realized I couldn't do KETO was on a typical Sunday training ride with the guys. The first hour was fine, the next 30 minutes was pure agony just trying to hang on and then the inevitable off the back and ride home alone. It's a pretty hilly route with an average around 32kph, I just couldn't hang on and normally I don't just hang on.

Which is exactly what should have been expected. On Keto you switch from (fast) burning carbs, to burning fat which is a lot less efficient at producing high-intensity energy. The good news is, you can go long, but you most certainly won't be going very fast.

Sounds like exactly what I was talking about. You should have supplemented with another energy source to get you through and you would have been fine. On my social ride days, I work on a coffee pre ride, 1 gel is enough to get me to the end, then a coffee post ride. Those rides are an easy out then smashfest return. I down the gel about 1/3 of the way home so it hits at the right time. I got caught a couple of weeks ago when the pace was a bit higher on the ride out to the turnaround and another gel would have been called for. I still won't eat until lunch time a few hours after the ride.

KETO suggestions

can you share some ideas as to what sort of meals you take (portions) ,how often you ride OR EAT for that matter. Be interesting to find out.I try to stay under 1600 calories.Maybe I need to reduce protein?
I was 277 lbs in Aug 2017,diagnosed T2 diabetic. I started KETO several mths later. been riding 2-3 times a week .1-2 hr pr ride . Am still heavy (209 lbs).
for the most part eat once a day. or use a small window of a few hrs to eat .Am 65 and stuck at 209 for past few months.?thinking I need to do some adjustments on my macros.
Just bought something called Exogenous Ketones(BHP Supplement..) prob a lot of caffeine ! Anyway ,your thoughts or imput or anybody's input is appreciated

Congratulations!
The transformation of your health is great! It sounds like you are doing a great job with your keto diet as well. You have avoided many of the mistakes that so many people make.
Many people don't understand that the 80% fat ratio on a keto diet is a recommendation for being on a keto diet where you are trying to at least maintain or even increase your weight! Remember it was first introduced to help with seizures.
If you eat 80% weight and then reduce from say 3000 Calories to 1500 Calories, you will reduce the amount of fat you eat because you still need the same amount of protein. This means that percentage of protein will climb even though the amount of protein doesn't increase.

Age and 1000 other factors can influence fitness so it can be hard to predict what your experiences will be.
You might need to introduce a little bit of carbs on longer rides, but as you ride more, you should be able to handle progressively longer rides without needing to eat carbs.

I'm not sure if I should print and frame my latest bloodwork or be concerned about an anti doping committee finding out. Four months ago, (which was 2 months into going Keto) my blood work was a train wreck. None of the cholesterol results were in the "normal" range. I understand the reasons that cholesterol is going to go up when you start Keto, but I did not expect a drop like this.

Amazing results I'm down 70 lbs And have fantastic labs as well. I had a couple injuries that set me back so 20 of the 70 I lost twice lol. Going very well now and added a gym routine this winter that is really leaning me out replacing fat with muscle.
I'm halfway to my goal and feeling great. Just started intermittent fasting 16/8 6days per week. Hoping to pick up the metabolism This also allows me to add carbs during exercise days without coming out of ketosis.

God Bless and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Well its the cholesterol ratio to be most precise. But we need numbers Timmy. Without some idea of those, high and low are relative. That way we can see, what you're saying. I any event, I've found the blackseed oil is a remarkable supplement for fixing cholesterol issues.

In other news, I've been feeling quite lethargic for the past couple of weeks so I went to the doctor's and got a complete blood-work done. I'm anxious to see if my results are still in the green or how they have changed. Hopefully, it will tell me what's causing this complete lack of energy. The last time I felt this tired my vitamin D was very low so my doctor recommended I start taking that supplement again.

I mostly feel the weakness whenever I start an physical activity particularly weight training. My mental connection is complexity severed and I can't tell what's going on in my body. Only that I feel exhausted after just a few light sets.

It reminds me of the tiredness you get when you have the flu. Yes, I suspected that the flue may have been the cause as well, since sometimes flu shows no symptoms except that you feel weak and tired very, very quickly.

Well you do drop out of ketos for an instant, but it snaps right back in a fraction of the original time it took you to get there.

My goal for 2019 was to drop below 10% bf but it is a challenge. I'm currently estimating 11% (down from 15%) currently. But of course as you approach 10% it becomes exponentially more difficult to break that barrier since you're already maxed out on diet and training.

Now that the temperature is getting warmer, I'm hoping the added cardio will push me over the sticking point.

I'm three days into my third week of Keto. I am down from 351 to 338. I'm sticking to under 20g of carbs a day and logging all of my food in Carb Manager. So far so good...

Good start, but what is your goal? You need to have clear description of how much you want to lose and the time it will take you to lose it. That way you know immediately if you're off or on schedule and can modify, ask for help, or make changes as you see the need.

In other news, I've noticed my fat diminishing but haven't taken an official reading yet. I'm going to wait until the end of April first, then reevaluate. I had a couple weeks setback due to illness. Once all my tests are back, I'll be able to decide if I can reintroduce my cardio. In the mean time, continued success with your dieting for 2019 and keep us updated with you progress.

Not meaning to be overly confrontational ... But I disagree here It is unlikely that you will be able to predict how your body will react to keto or any lifestyle changes Having a set goal yes, goals provide focus and motivation. But, setting a time frame is a recipe for discouragement Keep your macros on track. Remember to calculate them as you lose and if activity level changes

Keep up the good work and keep updating.

I agree with this. I was losing steadily, until I wasn't. No diet change and my workouts increased in intensity and frequency. On the other hand, I had to buy a new belt because my old one was merely decorative and my pants needed to be held up. I'm wearing pants I had set aside because I had outgrown them. At a certain point inches matter more that weight. I've been hovering around 206 for the past month, yet my pants keep getting looser. YMMV

For me it just works, its mostly because of my sugar addictions. I do not do well with moderation when I am allowed carbs I go overboard, when I keep them under 25 and count my macros I do well. I do a high protein lower fat version of Keto so not much bacon and fat in my diet.

Weighed in again at 206 this morning, had to pull my belt another notch tighter this morning too. What is going on? My legs are more muscular, but I don't think that much, or are they?
