Amtrak! Ballsy. Did you guys have to make a reservation with the bike car first? I think you're supposed to, not sure how that works. Naturally, that's why I like to stop in O-side.
Still haven't fixed my flat front tire on my roadie since I last rode with @tunavic 3 (or 4?) weeks ago. Trainer doesn't care.
Had my annual visit with Dr. Jellyfingers, all is well but this year - bonus! I get to schedule a colonoscopy.

I get that pleasure again this year. I had a colonoscopy once before - the worst part of the whole thing was dealing with the insurance company afterwards . I swear that they make "mistakes" on purpose so they don't have to pay as much.

My doctor recommended that I ask for my "contribution" in writing up front, so that I have a leg to stand on when I argue with them after the fact. Apparently (i experienced this at the ER 2 years ago too) even though the hospital takes your insurance, that doesn't mean that every single doctor who sees you does, and it's apparently a particular problem with anesthesiologists. (out here). So yeah, there's that.
She also said there's the gallon jug of nasty crap you have to drink OR you can ask for the two small containers. So exciting.

My husband is now 53 1/2 and has successfully avoided scheduling his. I did mine at 49 because a test came back showing something to make them want me to have it early. As you might know...prep is the worst part. Scheduled mine for first thing in AM.

Day before, liquid diet, the only thing that really satisfied me at all was chicken broth. Gatorade, jello, Popsicles, etc, all taste the same after half a day of them.

Well I'm ready to hang up my running shoes and get on my bike again, this has been a loooong winter! That said, it's 39 degrees (F) outside right now and I'm preparing to take the bike out for a little 10 mile spin. Should be interesting, I've been on the stationary bike a few times this winter but as we all know it's not the same as being out on the road with the wind in your face and actual hills to climb :-p I'm very jealous of you guys in southern Cali who can ride year 'round without risking hypothermia!

Rode Zwift this morning - a lap and a half in the jungle. I really pushed hard, and for my effort, Zwift bumped my FTP by 15 watts .

I rode about 23 miles outside today. It was gorgeous. Had a cross wind the whole time, which worked out fine.

OC Wheelmen spring metric for me today. Fun ride with a good group. Low 50s to mid 60s, 70 miles all in. With the recent rain Santiago Canyon is actually looking green again. Won't last long!

I have nagged him. I have even told the Dr to keep after him. I may have to resort you telling him what you said.

THAT is the message I have been preaching since the early detection caught this cancer in 2011. That treatment bought me 6 years and a 70% chance of cure. Unfortunately I fell into the 30% recurrence group, but without early detection, I would have missed out on a LOT of awesome memories!

Finally gave my old Roubaix some much needed love yesterday. New bar tape, replaced both brake cables and housing, new FD cable and housing, new BB (these new BBR60 bottom brackets just don't hold up, got maybe 5,000 miles on this one and it's been creaking for a couple of months).
I was surprised at the amount of friction in my FD cable housing, amazing the thing shifted at all. I'd never changed it myself in the 4-1/2 years I've owned the bike, AFAIK it could have been original (bike is 10 years old).

I need to do the same for my old roubaix... doesn't need cables but I have a fresh BB, chain and bartape ready to go.
"They" say you should recable annually. I usually go about 2 years, which is about 6k miles for me. Shimano is probably more sensitive to fresh cables than SRAM because the spring tension is much lower.

I know "they" say this. Because of this I was worried about the brake cables, especially while descending Pacific Island Drive yesterday, I've had replacements for a while, along with tape and housing, so finally just got out there and did it.
The brake cables looked pristine. No fraying or chafe, and very little friction in the housing. "They" are pretty conservative in their recommendations. I don't think I will change them annually, but 2 yrs sounds reasonable. Cables are cheap, the cost of cable failure could be quite high.
The FD cable looked fine, no fraying. OTOH my RD cable tends to fray right at the brifter. I've taken to replacing it annually (around 6K miles) just to avoid the hassle of digging out the broken off end. Last year I replaced it the week before Breathless Agony. When doing all the other work yesterday I pulled it out and checked it, no evidence of fraying or chafe at all.

Which direction did you climb PID before descending PID? I "climbed/walked" it going from Alicia (?) toward beach I guess. We met up at the Starbucks near that corner and then headed up. It was my first crack at that climb and I was not worthy. It was my first descent of such a grade with high speed with the Emonda and I was not sure how the brakes would be on the carbon rims so I was more cautious than usual with descent speed.
I just had the cables redone on the Domane (first new cables for it since purchase in December 2014).

My two newest bikes are both internal cables and I detest changing those.

The good news is I got a new PR on the full PID segment, took 16 seconds off my best time. Even better, I was really moderating my DH speed because I was cold, so climbing-wise I probably did a bit better. Less good news, I'm only 746 /1272 on Strava. But I'll take it, not bad for a 60 yr old Clyde. Here's the Strava:
