Trek Century Challenge

Okay, somebody mentioned the Trek Century Challenge, so I joined it yesterday. I also joined the BikeForums Clydesdales and Athenas group on Strava, and a bunch of you are in the challenge. I'm near last, in our group, but not doing so bad in the the over womens stats. :) I rode 5 miles tonight, and if I didn't stop and talk to a neighbor, I probably could have done more, so that's my next challenge to myself, more miles per ride. I have some catching up to do to make the 100 mile minimum for the month.

Interestingly, a nice slow ride today and I really felt strong.

Current Place 28,556/36,872 in total women.

Last year Trek gave us some nice T shirts. This year it's a coffee mug. Either way, it's a fun thing. Sad that my miles this year will be half what I did last year.:(

And a stem cap. Don't forget the stem cap!

What's that you say? Free geegaws? Complimentary chotchkies? Well sign me up.

Miles as of 7/24: 814/1,000
Current Place: 5,103/214,091

Dr I, you're on track to get the fancy GOLD stem cap!! Better get those last 200 mi this weekend.:thumb:

DrIsotope 07-24-20 02:15 PM

Seven remaining ride days to get a paltry 186 miles, shouldn't be an issue... physically. I haven't taken a rest day off the bike since June 26, and it's kinda starting to wear on me.

I'm 96 miles behind you. It's going to be a push to get that fancy stem cap that I won't even be able to use without some imagination. I guess I could hot glue it to my FutureShock adjuster knob. :foo:

DrIsotope 07-24-20 03:50 PM

And I (firstly) machine all of my own stem caps, and (secondly) don't own anything Trek, so I don't know what I'll even use it for. Keychain? Set it on a shelf? This is assuming that the cap is just a plain gold anno thing that says "Trek" on it. I might be surprised.

I didn’t even know about this, and I will soon have two Domane bikes. I ride in two places - in FL where it’s flat, and in the mtns. of VA where it’s insane hills. Been so hot in VA it’s no better than FL. And I ride a lot, not sure what the quals are.

There's a Canadian gentleman by the name of Arvid Loewen who is taking advantage of July to go after the Men's Month record, currently held by Mark Beaumont with 7,031 miles. Mr. Loewen has been doing around 16 hours a day, the same 11-mile stretch of road, over and over, about twelve 22 mile laps a day-- very similar to the Coker technique. Difference is, while he's on pace to just nudge past Beaumont, he'll be about 1,000 miles shy of Coker's record for miles in a single month.

Back here in the real world, I have 2 days to get in a whoppin' 13 remaining miles to make the 1K. I have a loose plan of ~35mi tomorrow and probably a soft 25-ish on Friday. Not a bad month overall, but this morning I must say I was lagging a bit. I feel okay physically, but i haven't had an off day in way too long. I just want to sit down for awhile.

I am part of the challenge but had to stop at a little over four hundred miles, took a nasty fall and had to have emergency surgery. Can't wait to get back on my bike! love the challenges though, gives our riding a little added motivation.

What do you get at 500 miles? I normally post my rides "friends only" on Strava, though I opened up enough to get to 100 for the cup Not sure I want to post more than that visible to the whole world.

shelbyfv 07-31-20 05:56 AM

I'm guessing a different color stem cap:rolleyes: Last year the T shirts were different colors for the different mileage goals. I used to worry about Strava privacy but got over it. I can't imagine the world is nefariously interested in my rides.

DrIsotope 07-31-20 12:01 PM

Wrapped up July this morning with a short one, as it was already pushing 100º by 9am. Ain't nobody got time fo' that.

Month End Totals
SSCX: 11 rides, 304.65 miles, 8,942ft^
1x CX: 11 rides, 327.00 miles, 12,940ft^
2x R3: 10 rides, 420.71 miles, 13,254ft^

33 rides, 60h22m, 1,052.36 miles, 35,136ft^

Coffee mug and silver stem cap.

MattTheHat 07-31-20 12:49 PM

I finished off this morning and should get my mug and fancy gold stem cap shipped in September, thanks to Garmin. Not that I use a Garmin anything, but Trek made a point of throwing them under the bus for the delay. I guess they need to make sure everyone gets their delayed upload on before they start shipping.

Today was my 140th consecutive day riding. Just for the heck of it, I'm going to see how long I can stretch that out this year. My longest streak last year was 33 consecutive days.

I just uploaded my last ride! Luckily I beat the rain. 100.9 miles in 30 rides. I didn't think I was going to make it on that Townie. I hope I can get on a faster bike soon.

Strava sent me my email for the prizes, to be mailed in September. I'm tired.

shelbyfv 07-31-20 02:21 PM

Congrats!!:thumb:

They mail to nearest STORE not your home. Then you go pick up. That is how they shirts worked last year. Be sure to click on link in email to set up where you will be picking up your mug and stem cap.

Congrats to getting 100 miles in on a TOWNIE!

I will hit 500 tonight. I am currently at 477.2. I have ridden 198 miles from last Saturday thru yesterday to get to that number.

I just got the email that said they are coming to the store for pick up. I probably would have forgotten anyway.

Congratulations on your miles! That's kind of how I had to finish, but on a smaller scale. The last week was the hardest. If this is an annual thing, I will try for 500 next year. I would definitely not have put in all those miles without having this goal.

Had to contact Trek support (and even finding a link to do that is a chore in itself) and a couple of trips to the Trek Store later, and I finally got my geegaw for that thing I did that one time.
Straight onto the SSCX, as the other bikes already have their "forever caps." The mug's not bad either. A little small, maybe.

Cool! I keep forgetting to go pick my stuff up. Wish I was getting the gold.:(

I rode 1,000 miles and they sent me a silver cap. Oh well. On the up side, I don’t even have a bike it will work on, so I guess it’s no big deal. Maybe I’ll make a key chain out of it or something.

DrIsotope 10-30-20 11:43 PM

Trek didn't send my local store any gold caps, so they tried to give me a bronze one. I just handed it back to the guy. I was past 100 miles on July 3rd.
