Not sure what to think about October. I should have minor eye surgery again and possible hernia surgery. I'm going to shoot for 500 miles, but I could be way off.

Weak finish to my September, fell 40 miles short of my goal. Mostly due to work travel and weather.
Will try for 350 miles in October, should be doable if I don't have to travel.
10/1: 20.0
YTD: 2391.2

well i ended up not being able to ride from August 26 to sept 18. I long story short was I thought I had a small saddle sore but it ended up being a cyst that ruptured and was pretty ugly. Finally healed up so decided I needed to celebrate by doing a century.

October - my favorite month of the year, but not so conducive to cycling. Missed my September goal, so I'll roll back October to 373 miles - 400K so I get another imaginary trophy for my imaginary Strava trophy case.
Lots if travel this month, so it will take a little motivation which I seem to be lacking lately.

10/02 - 12.5
10/04 - 12.02, 42.21, 17mph. Personal best time for this loop, personal best average speed for this loop. At least so far, COVID doesn’t seem to have given me any long term effect. My resting heart rate is returning to normal, as well.

I don't usually ride five days in a row, and my legs were pretty heavy tonight. But it looks like the next 2 or 3 days are going to be too wet to ride, so wanted to get a good start to the month for a change.

Over the holidays, I developed sepsis. Ended up passing out in my kitchen. His my head, suffered a brain bleed and had three strokes.
The neighbors to the east of me noticed the back door to my deck opened for a long time and the only light being on in the bathroom. That couple went to the neighbors on my west side. The wife of that couple had the combination to my lockbox from cat sitting. I was found at 7:30 pm on New Year’s Eve. From what we can piece together, I had likely been on the floor for well over 12 hrs:
The sepsis had infected my heart badly. After I was removed from a respirator after 4 days I had to have my mitral valve and part of my ascending aorta replaced.
Spent a month in the hospital and two months in a pretty bad rehab place. I didn’t walk for over two months and was on a feeding tube until March 7th.
Got discharged at the end of March. Needed a walker and stairlift to get around the house. Graduated to a cane near the end of May and went back to work on June 1st. Haven’t used the cane since early July, but I still don’t walk normally.
I’m going to retire at the end of April. Life is too short.

No rain after all, so decided to ride again. Left a bit earlier than usual to have some daylight. Legs felt great today. Probably the last day in a while that I could wear shorts and no long sleeves or jacket.

Glad you are back. Retiring sounds like a great idea. I figure I have a couple more years to go.
