A quick update:

This morning's home (au naturale) weigh-in had me at under 220, by a pound and a half. That puts me well into the 2-teens, for the first time in 30 years. And when LOML and I rode to our WW meeting, my official (clothed) weigh-in put me .4 pounds beyond the 50-pound-loss mark, since joining in April. Follow up that meeting with a 26 mile ride on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, with a stop at a very pretty golf course to sit under the tree and eat the sandwiches we brought for brunch, and it's a great way to start the weekend.

Pure inspiration! Many Thanks to all of you. This thread is magic, real life weight loss without anybody trying to sell you something. I read part of this thread every night for motivation.

At 25 years old and 180lbs/82kg I ran/jogged a 10K charity run. That run was my greatest physical achievement and the last. 28 years of cars and keyboards and I'm 252lbs/115kg on a 5'8" frame.

Started walking 5 weeks ago and hated it. Bought an inexpensive bike 3 weeks ago. My first night out I rode 1.5 miles and thought I was going to die. I managed to get up to 3.5 miles in the neighborhood over the course of a few nights. I then announced to my somewhat skeptical wife "I'm riding to work". My first commute of 11 miles round trip was pure agony. I stuck it out and after just 5 commutes on the bike I'm the master of my physical destiny! I glide to and from work and am starting to feel like that invincible 25 y/o I used to be.

I highly encourage anyone who can use their bike for transportation as well as exercise to do it. There is something special about riding with a destination as the goal as well as for the pure enjoyment of the bike. For me, this commute to work is so much easier than riding for exercise. If you can, try it!

To date I'm down 15 lbs and on my way to 180.

So there is my before and during story. Now I owe this thread a great "after" follow up. I've promised myself that I'll post pictures when I crack 200.

Tom

You are an inspiration to those of us that are significantly overweight. Keep up the good work. I am just getting started but will get some pics taken soon and post . Thanks for your help and this great forum. Chuck

ETA: Attached is me in June 2010 at my starting weight of 343. I am currrently 316 (Sept 23rd) but have no pictures at that weight. As I continue to loose weight I will post my pictures.

Very motivational. Congratulations to everyone. I just started WW yesterday - on my own - lost weight years ago on it. Yesterday I weighed 226 lbs, the heaviest I've ever been. My goal is to lose 55 lbs by the end of April - my 55th birthday. I finally decided I was sick and tired of buying womens' plus size clothing, being depressed about my weight, the aches and pains in my joints. I need to make sure I have a before photo.

Congrats on the decision to join WW, surgtech. My wife and I joined in April, and it's made all the difference for us. I, in particular, was obviously in need of the structure it provides, as well as getting me good, solid information about nutrition that I can use to change my life.

Good for you, Crazy88s! 212 was where my last weight loss bottomed out, about 25 or 30 years ago. Can't wait to get to that point myself so I no longer feel like I'm revisiting old ground. Plus that'll have me 5 more pounds toward my reward bike for breaking 200.

Thanks much for sharing those pictures of your weight loss journey. It's inspiring.

How did you manage your time to get out and ride?
How was it the first few times on the bike?

BMI Under 30...no longer technically obese...Woo-hoo!
My neck is beginning to reappear...I also have had to get smaller pants twice now...that's always fun.

Keepin' on keepin' on

Down to 207.2 as of 9/9/10! I started my journey at 257.8 one year ago. I feel physically, mentally and spiritually 99% better than when I was at my heaviest. Just got home from running the Red Ribbon Run Against Cancer this morning. A 5k in just under 30 minutes! I'm ecstatic. Last year I "participated" and finished dead last at 47 minutes (my version of a run was everyone else's walk)!

Hi All,

This is my first post here. I just bought a road bike and am on a quest to go from 312 to 190lbs.
The pictures here are really motivating and I am looking forward to posting future photos as I head toward my goal.

I don't want any one to feel cheated so here's a photo of the bike and another of me today, at 300lbs even.

I have not had a road bike since high school, so I picked this up from E-bay mainily to see if I would ride more then I have been on my mountain bikey. It's not fancy, and I know all the hardcore riders will tell me I should have spent more. But:
A: I have a family and need to do things as affordable as I can
B: Even if its a tricycle but it gets me riding...it's all good.

I'll save up and get a really good bike when I reach the 225 lbs mark. This one cost me $250 and I am finding I much more enjoy riding the road bike. Only one problem, my bum is having a hard time with so much weight on the smaller and harder seat.

Tex Bs: Do a search here on the forum about seats (saddles). You'll find some great discussions about making your bum feel better on the bike. I ended up buying two saddles based on recommendations from members here.

You're right, Tex - any bike that gets you out there and moving is a good bike, at least for now. Though it looks like your saddle could use some serious raising.

Tex:
I rode parts of the Bike Across Kansas the last 2 years at 365lbs with very few practice rides (maybe 30 miles). Try padded shorts with butt butter? or similar product. I also started with icy hot to get things warmed up along with stretching.
Your getting it done, continue with your work.

In January of this year I weighed about 268 at my highest. Here's a pic at a Sierra Club retreat where we were playing some kind of team game...

The wife went on a serious weight loss program so I felt obligated to join in...
