I lost a water bottle today
I lost a water bottle on a bump on my ride today. The whole right 4 feet of the lane was pretty crappy, and I couldn't swerve around that break in the pavement as a I was being passed by a car. I circled back to
get it, parked my bike on a patch of grass about 40 ft away, then started walking to where the water bottle was in the middle of the right hand lane. Cars were about 100 yds apart, on a long straightaway, so snagging the bottle was safe enough.
I waited for one last car to pass before stepping out to get the bottle, and the ******* driver (in a Mercedes SUV) actually SWERVED to run over the water bottle. ****ing cager. Now I'm out $3.50 and need to pick up a new one.
Next time I'll just write it off immediately and not even look back.

I use a "monkeyball" to keep min in place. One of those little bunge cord loops with a plastic ball on the tied ends. Basically loop it around your frame, near your cage(s) and push the pall thru the loop. Be careful to NOT put it over any cables, under is much better.
Then just grab the ball, pull it up, and slide it (the two bunge cord parts) over the top of the bottle. Doesn't take much - just enuf to hold it in place. I actually just slide mine over the bite valve.
Very easy to use this way, and I haven't had one jump out since.
The balls just stay in place when no bottle is in the cage - you might have to shorten the bunge to make it the right length.

King cage. Best cage I've ever used.

Be happy it wasn't an expensive anodized stainless bottle.

I probably wouldn't even stop and go back on a road unless there was no traffic. If it was on the side of the road, yeah, but in the middle...not unless there is no traffic anywhere near.

That was my conclusion afterwards. I'll keep on buying the el-cheapo bottles and add a bungee to hold the spare one on.

Yep,, that be it. They come in a multitude of colors. The black ones go real well with my black bike.

+1 on just leaving it. Cheapo bottles rule for being disposable.
Think TdF, those guys just ditch the bottle all the time. GO PRO, lol.

I filled a little 10 oz or so bottle with gatorade and took off on my regular route. The bottle was loose in the holder, but I didn't think anything about it. And then I rode across the low-water-crossing-bridge, and that's when the bottle bounced out and rolled right in the creek...and that's a city creek that you don't want to be drinking any bottle that's ever touched it, so I just kept on pedaling. I was hot an could have used that gatorade, too.

That discarded (or lost) water bottle is trash, and you should pick up your trash if possible. I wouldn't rush out into traffic and risk my life to do it, but neither would I simply ride on if I had a safe option to stop and clean it up.

You're complaining about $3.50? Heck I'm a poor guy and $3.50 is nuttin' in the cycling world!
I dropped on on a fast group ride, from the hand. A guy behind kicked it to me so I wouldn't have to ride back. I placed it back in the cage only to later noitce it had a big crack and all the water had drained while riding. I could have used that bottle on the ride!

My cages tend to loosen up sometimes so I just bend them back to make the bottle stay in there tighter. Water bottles are a dime a dozen. We get free ones all the time because at most events they are giving them away as sponsers adverising so we grab as many they allow. I heard a hammer head say they only spend the most money on where your body contacts the bike because it is worth it. Be frugal in the other areas.
