Shorts for a clydesdale
Hey guys. I am in a bit of a dilema and am looking for some help. I am interested in some shorts that would be good for me and my road bike. I am a size 42 waist. The problem is I would feel uncomfortable in the really tight and short spandex looking shorts. I would prefer something baggier, but i know that defeats the purpose of the shorts and may cause chafing.
Are there any shorts that are more casual/looser/longer and will still fit a big guy like me?
Thanks

Ive got some Nike brand shorts that have the tight lycra under some baggy style shorts. Very comfy and ahve a couple of pockets to carry stuff. Excellent quality.

With tight spandex you won't have any discomfort. You may feel like a dork walking around, at first. But once you're on the bike you'll realize why they make them that way.

I haven't worn anything but mountain bike shorts for years, as my weight went from 210 to almost 270 and back to 225 and my waist went from 36 to 44 and back to 38. They're as comfortable (at least for me) as Lycra tighties, they have pockets and I never, ever feel like a dork walking into the coffee place.
Or you could ride in ordinary street shorts over some padded underwear, like Andiamos or . . . PearlIzumi makes some, too, I think. Check REI or the Nashbar-Performance catalogs.

The only thing to watch out for....recently they started selling "designer" jerseys, which are just Primal jerseys. These are NOT the same quality as their own jerseys. I hope they don't continue this trend....I bought two primal jerseys once and quite frankly, their quality sucks.
