New to Biking and this Forum
Hi, I'd like to introduce muself. My name is Fred, I had a heart attack last September and I'm looking to use cycling as a good cardio sort of exercise. I think I could fit in with the guys here in the Clydesdales section as I'm 6 feet tall and 260 lbs., with size 13 feet.
I just put a K2 Big Easy Deuce together and added a Cloud 9 oversized seat. I sure wish the weather was better so I could ride it, because I know I'm gonna love this bike. Many years ago I had a Raleigh 10 speed bike with an upright riding position to it. I really enjoyed that bike.
I have a gearing question I'm going to post somewhere appropriate. I'll post it in this section too and someone might know the answer.
My bike has a 13 - 34T gear cassette and a SR Suntour XR-170, 24/34/42T. What I have found in the very little riding I have done between snow storms is the highest gear is not all that tough to pedal. I'd like to change the gearing on the bike so that more of the gear combinations are useful. Right now, anything on the two smaller chain wheels is useless.
I've done several searches trying to find the parts I need to up-gear this bike, but no luck. Do any or you know where I could order the parts I need to raise the gearing?
Thanks for any and all comments,
Fred

where are you located in IL? if there is an lbs you trust nearby, talk to the mechanic there.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Welcome to the forum, Fred!
You might try Harris Cyclery.......
They have a lot of NOS stuff for Suntour, etc.

There isn't one. I'm in a very rural (read Remote) part of the state. The closest shop is in Burlington, Iowa. Since moveing here, the internet has become my General Store.

Welcome to the Forum fred
I too am 6 foot and just broke 259. If you don't already have one, I might suggest a Trainer to put your bike on indoors, while you are waiting for "spring". Many of the models have different difficulty levels that will give you a work out even with your current gearing ratios.

Got some good advice in the mechanical section of this board about installing a 11-28 Shimano freewheel to raise my gearing somewhat. That's going to be my next priority thing for this bike.
From reading some of the posts in this section, I can tell I'm gonna like it here.
Thanks for the replies.
