Longest ride to date- 40 miles

Today I headed out for the longest ride I've done yet and well out of my comfort zone. My past "long rides" have been a consistent 20-30 miles. The route took me from my home in San Francisco out to downtown Tiburon and back. With two Polar bottles, one with Gatorade and one with water, I still had to stop near the end of the ride for more water (it's pretty hot here). Crossing the GG Bridge was a good time. There is one side closed to pedestrians, bikes only, a good idea and the bike riders hold their lines.

My newly broken in Pearl Izumi 3D Pro bib worked very well, comfortable, soaked up and evaporated a whole bunch of fat guy sweat, and with a Brooks B17, no sore butt at all! Half way through the ride, I stopped in Tiburon for a panini and a coffee...I highly recommend this if you go on a long ride, it keeps your spirits high.

While lots of people passed me, I kept up a respectable speed and even passed a few folks. All the roadies here wear full "pro kits"...not sure why, a cotton tshirt was enough for this ride.

The only scary moment (and it didn't have to do with car drivers, who did a great job of sharing the road) was a leashed dog jumping out just as I passed by. But I kept my shorts clean so it's all good

Total ride time was about 40 miles in about 3 hours with a twenty minute break in the middle.

Hope you all have a good ride this weekend and don't be afraid to push yourself farther.
Alan

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Thanks, it was a great day. Surprisingly I don't want to pass out...yet! Those last twenty miles were the toughest. There is a hill from Sausalito to the start of the bridge that looked like a mountain. That hill had me finishing off both bottles and cursing for lack of a camelbak.

Next goal is a 50 mile ride. It's possible. Maybe

Very nice! I haven't broken over 32 yet but I can feel that I am getting stronger.

Nice work, Bankman. Did you take photos over the GG bridge? I assume that was spectacular!

Great job! Pretty soon you won't be satisfied if you do anything less than 50.

Congrats, Alan. I have yet to do my first 30 mile ride. Had hoped to do it this weekend but I'm stuck at home with a nasty cold.

May all your rides have leashed dogs....
