1000!

I reached the 1000 mile mark this afternoon. And to reach it, I recreated my original first bike ride back on December 24, 2006.

There were compromises, of course, in my attempt to recreate a past event. First of all, it's summer now, and even though I rode in street clothes and athletic shoes, I wore a lot less clothing than in December. Also, I'm now 30 pounds lighter, and my posture and strength are much improved from last year. And the bike is physically different, with clipless pedals, a straight seatpost, rack and panniers, and a wider saddle. Plus I wasn't going to forget everything I've learned over the past six months.

So strict conformity to the past standard was impossible. Under the circumstances, I did the best I could, keeping the bike in a low gear and wearing a frightened look on my face. I slowed and nodded to the mailbox where I took my first fall, but I saw no need to recreate that moment, or the chain coming off.

1.64 miles in 9 minutes 36 seconds.

Very nice - 1,000 miles since December is very respectable too. What is most respectable is the changes to you as a result.

Congrats! That's 1600+ kilometers, sounds even better in metric :-)

JumboRider 06-23-07 06:48 PM

How many cubits would that be?

crtreedude 06-23-07 06:54 PM

1,600,000 METERS which would be 5 million 200 thousand feet...

Getting tired yet? :D

epcolt 06-23-07 07:37 PM

Well, a Cubit = about .78 yards or 28 inches.

so 1760*1000/.78=2,256,410.256 cubits;)
