Here tis - my new Gary Fisher Montare. My wife gave it to me for my birthday (54 today). She wants to do everything she can to be sure I keep riding! I really love the bike. Note the big boy seat I added - one ride on the original skinny seat reminded me why I need to stay off those things.

Keep the skinny one around! As your butt geometry changes, you may well be surprised to find out it eventually becomes more comfortable on long rides!

That looks like a very nice bike. I agree with Tom on the seat too. I used to find the small seats horribly uncomfortable, but now I won't go on a long ride without one.

I wasn't sure I could handle a skinny seat when I bought my bike but it seems to be working out. My legs and stamina seem to give out before my behind. lol

I ride a 2005 Montare. Great all around bike. like G Fish says, mountain bike tough, road bike fast, well not quite but still a great all around ride. Mine sat in my garage till this year when after watching my weight climb to 248 (I'm 6'3) I decided to do something about it, I'm now down to 228 and loving it! I started out with 5 mile rides, now I'm up to 45 to 50 miles. I didn't experience any discomfort (other than the seat) on my Montare, but on the Trek, I had to swap out the stem to raise the bars, my neck, and left shoulder would ache and my hands would go numb, the higher stem did wonders. A road bike is still a road bike but I can live with it now :)

I had forgotten how much fun bikes can be, I've enjoyed it so much, I bought a Trek road bike for my longer rides, ( I hope to do STP next year) and a Giant Cypress for riding with my kids, its a upright comfort oriented bike.

One suggestion, buy some good padded bike shorts and some good cream to reduce friction in the groin area, it works wonders.

Looks like the saddle nose is a little high. You might want to level that out to gain a little more comfort.
These fast city bikes are the nutz aren't they? It's pretty close in specs to my Clyde Bike other than the front fork and Steel frame I have. I do love hitting the MUT's and riding fast on the street in the City on a Saturday or Sunday when there is little traffic.

Hey KWHMAN, I just picked up the same bike!! I love it!!! Just love the look and color!! Got it as a close out so I only paid $650 for a $1150.00 bike!! I'm just getting back into riding myself for the same reasons as you. NEED TO LOSE THE FAT!! :-) I put a Cane Creek LT Suspension Seat Post on mine as I live in Jersey City, NJ with Pot holes EVERYWHERE. Might change out the saddle too for a gel seat. We'll see but for now I'm really loving it!! Hope you're still riding and having a great time on yours.

Very nice bike! If you don't mind me asking how tall are you? The seat seems awfully high up for the size of the frame, whats your frame size and inseam?

Beautiful Bike!! It really helps to have a supportive wife also. Congrats on the new ride.

If you go for a skinny seat, try staying with a C9- I have one and it's great.

Nice bike! Sounds like my wife...For some reason she wants to keep me around for awhile. That, or she likes the two hours of peace and quite she gets while I'm out on my ride.
