I thought I was the only person that had these! I don't wear them cycling (have bike shoes) but I love them more than any other shoe I have ever had....EVER! I have hot feet too, and they don't sweat in the Merrell's.

BTW: sorry to tell you this, but I got mine about 2 yrs ago for $40 at DSW

yes, I have a helmet.

My next purchases as the butt doesn't bother me is going to be gloves and then a different stem / bar ends. as I think I will get more comfort out of those.

to answer the questions of shoes. I ride in New Balence vented cross trainers.

for shorts, I wear synthetic basketball type shorts, they were $10's and work great.

If you think you may want to try the world of clipless, a set of 'campus' pedals is a great way to get your feet wet (pun intended). These are regular platforms on one side and spd style on the other. This lets you either clip in or not, as your comfort level dictates. This is the kind of pedal my wife learned to ride clipless with, now she's on crank bros candys exclusively. I've got a set on order for my fixie, so I can either ride MTB shoes or street shoes, depending on the trip.

so I ordered new pedals (power grip) and some bar ends. Im going to go to a store to look at some gloves hopefully this weekend.

as for shorts, I did a 20 miler this weekend and my butt was fine. Not going to upgrade the seat, shorts until I feel the need. THe current shorts that I wear (active wear) have a rear pocket that I don't sit on, I can put my music player in it and listen to tunes, I dont want to give that up
