Ride from wonder land report

I went over to my LBS, Lowcountry Bicycles, for our Thursday night ride. Things didn't start off good. As I was walking back to the car with my gear bag, I felt my left calf get cut, as a knife was sticking out of my bag and had cut me! Fortunately, there was some butterfly sutures to seal the cut and bandages in my first aid kit in the car.

We did not split into our usual two groups, so all the fast riders were with us slower, heavier riders. That wasn't too bad, as I was able to hold my place and even pull for a while. At a stop sign, another rider sort of stumbled and knocked my rear skewer open. I stopped at the next turn to tighten it up, only to have it slip and throw the chain off the cassette into the spokes! This is my good Open Pro wheel with a 600 hub. I managed to repair it enough to head back to the shop.

I caught a tail wind and made it there quicker then I thought I could. As fortune would have it, or a bit of earlier laziness, my other wheelset was in my van. I swapped rear wheels, pumping up the tire with my new Topeak Road Morph, then headed back down the highway to see if I could catch the group.

As I came up to the big intersection on Lady's Island, the group was approaching it and I had a clear shot at a left turn! I turned left, they turned right, and I merged back into the group. After another 12 hard miles, I told my friend Tom was done and headed back.

While I have had my share of strange rides, this one was just odd. Now to get that wheel fixed...

Great way to recover though! Now, are you back in business with the wheels?
