When I go for my second bike...
Ok, I can already feel myself getting drawn into riding. I haven't done any serious hauls yet but I can't wait to get back on my bike and ride again. I've planned several short rides (10-15mi) in the hopes they'll keep me busy until school starts again (I'm a teacher). I constantly find myself checking out craigslist, etc. for bikes. I'm riding a 1982 Peugeot PH10, nothing special but it holds some memories for me. It's got a bit of rust which I'm going to try to clean up along the way, but she'll always look a bit rough after 17 yrs in a basement. I think what I'd like is something a little lighter/faster maybe a used entry level racer, again nothing special or uber expensive. Any thoughts as to good models/makes I should be on the lookout for?

Depends on your budget. This is a good starting point:

Prices in that thread range from $500 - $700, roughly. For a couple hundred less, you could get one of those same bikes used.
Another option is to look for close outs on last years models at your LBS. Right now, you can get a smokin' deal on '06 stuff, since the 2008's are right around the corner. For instance, I got my '06 Giant this June for about 30% off of MSRP.

I'm also a teacher who just got back into riding. Am currently riding an older road bike (1972 Atala) and am now looking for "number 2."
Personally, I like the older bikes. The modern carbon fiber monstrosities really do nothing for me, even though I'm sure the modern shifters and brakes are nice. I've got my eye on an early '90s Cannondale right now. If you are going used there are literally countless bikes to choose from. Of course, it all depends on what you can find on Craigslist or Ebay. If you're shopping new, then of course, you're looking at least $700 in most cases.
Check out the 'Classic and Vintage' forums and see if anything catches your eye there, then see if you can get lucky enough to find one for sale.

I was thinking something 90's and beyond. I do like the vintage stuff alot too and I'm sure I'll find myself beating the bushes for them as well.

Craigslist is probably your best bet, but you can also search Ebay for auctions that are close to you to avoid shipping costs. (I'm currently checking both on a daily...er, sometimes hourly basis.)
