Wish me luck...

Going to try my first century tomorrow and have to drag my 100 kg over this course (around 13,000 ft of climbing)

Ouch, that looks painful. Having said that, it'll be interesting to hear about your experiences. I'm hoping to do a similar ride sometime next year, after I have built up some base miles.

Good luck! That's a lot more climbing on one ride than I've ever done! Go get 'em!

Well, I survived. I rode very strongly until Unaka Mtn which is just brutal. I decided to take the 80 mile route rather than the full 107 at the third rest stop. I felt ok, but at that point, I was simply ready to get it over with and apparently 90% of the field felt the same way. Overall, I felt very good and used the Hammer Nutrition fueling plan: no breakfast, I used my first hammer gel 5 minutes before the start and then made sure that I consumed Hammer Gel, Perpetuem, and Heed in 15 minute increments throughout the ride. As best I can tell, I probably took in 1050 calories during the ride.
Stats:
Distance 78.2 miles
Ride time 4:36
Avg Speed 17.0 mph
Rest Time 13 minutes 14 seconds (about 5 minutes was spent waiting on a train to pass)
Fluids consumed 104 oz.
Avg HR 128
Max HR 167
Max Speed 56.4 mph
Ascent: 11946 ft
Start Temp: 44f
Finish Temp: 78f
Wind, light to start, gusting to 15mph by the finish

Crazy! I just did 50 in the flats and I was tired. Sure there was plenty of wind but not 13k of climbing! Make good use of the rest stops and you should be fine.

Good luck.

Holy mountain goats, dude! That's awesome. I'm training my way up to doing some ultra-hilly ultra-distance rides, and I'm always happy to see another role model in the Clyde forum.

Might I also add:
Max Speed 56.4 mph Do you need a special saddle to accommodate your balls of steel?

Honestly I don't even remember it. According to my GPS, it happened on the descent of the 3rd major climb and the road is pretty good with a couple of really long straights. One of the guys I rode with said he was in the 60's and I do not doubt it. I am not the most aggressive descender, but I was probably in oxygen deprivation at the summit and had no idea what I was doing anyway
