I've been lurking here for about a year. I've posted a few times, but haven't really participated that much, as I'm still working on procuring a bike (yes, a year later) . Every time I think I've got it narrowed down and am ready to pull the trigger, something happens to drag me back from the ledge. Hopefully, I'll be the proud owner of something soon, as my son is itching for both of us to hit the trails since we got his new bike a couple of months ago.

BF is one of the few forums I've used where I find myself reading posts way more than replying to posts. Sometimes I post a good deal, then at times I'll go months with out replying to anything. There's a lot of stuff to read on here and it can take a A LOT of your time to sift through all of it.

Ive been lurking about 4 months on and off. Im excited! Im going to look at bikes tomorrow! Its a big deal for me since I live out in the middle of nowhere. Lots of places to ride, but no LBS for 250 miles. So Im going to the 'big city' tomorrow and tue and gonna check out some bikes while Im out there.

BTW, slightly ot-Is 'haggeling' to get a better price ok? One shop Im gonna look at has a '06 hardrock comp disk for $500 on their web site. List on the bike was only $550 for a new one. Would I be out of line to either ask $425-450 or maybe pay asking price but have them throw in some other stuff (upgraded seat, clothing, or something else, not excedding $75-100)?

I just introduced myself the other day as well as praising Tom, cant believe he didn't welcome me. But Historian and Easthill did! But its okay, he is a busy guy!!

I lurked for a few months and found a ton of helpfull advice/info thanks to this site and will power I have dropped over 160lbs.

The margin on a hardrock is not that much. I would ask for a reasonable cut on some accessories and free installation.

Long-time member, but usually quiet. Busy learning and enjoying the discussions in this forum and the Commuting and Fifty+ forums until I can shoe-horn some more riding time into my life. Sounds lame even to me, but 4 kids and one income have kept me pretty busy for a while now.

okay, you caught me. Been reading over a year, posted once in a while. This year, got serious, have dropped about 20lbs or so since new years, but it has been in the gym so far, waiting for the weather to break here in rochester, ny. to top it off, I just got pneumonia, so it'll be another week or two until something happens bikewise. I did get a Park pcs-10 to help with repairs though. Can I go back to lurking now?

I joined the forum about a month ago after I had an issue when replacing a 12-25 cassette with a 11-34 so that I could get up some hills. I still haven't figured out what the 11 is for, if I can peddle that fast I'm coasting down a hill. Last year I started cycling again after a 25 year break, funny I stopped cycling about the time I got a drivers license. In my break I gained enough experiance to join this exclusive club.

I'm currently training(?) for Reach the Beach, an ~80 mile ride from Salem, OR to Pacific city, over a mountain range. I understand that there is about 6200 feet of climbing with 6400 feet of descents. I like the sound of the downs but the ups concern me. My longest ride so far is about 25 miles. Now I just have to do three of those in one day and I'm good.

I've appreciated the experience I've gained from reading this forum.

That sounds like an awesome ride! Let us know how your training is going. It shouldn't be too long to the point where you can handle that distance, but the vertical sounds intimidating.
