A Wake-up call and MOTIVATION
 

I was finishing up a 20+ mile solo ride plodding along after a looooong incline (can't call it a climb...but it still sucks it out of you), mind turned inwards, inane music playing in my head...when another cyclist blows past me and calls out "Good Morning!"

I screamed like a little girl! Startled the pooey out of me. If I'd been paying attention as, I should have been, I would have noticed his approach in my handy helmet mirror.

and now for motivation....

Same ride. I was 4 blocks away from the house. I found out that, on the level, I can get up to 27mph on my bike! All it takes is a pit bull tearing out of a yard and giving chase.:eek: I'm glad it wasn't older as I was able to finally get it away from me by squirting it with my water bottle.

Fortunately your awareness level was up when it counted more for the angry dog than the friendly cyclist.

LOL, I like that the other day I was just pedalling along when out of no where a dog came out of a yard and started yelping at me. Needless to say It woke me up.

I'd much rather have that kind of luck where i wasn't paying attention for the cyclist and was paying attention for the dog. haha.
I actually have a pit, he like cyclist but he tries to run with them, but he doesn't go out off the leash. I don't understand people that leave their dogs out for extended periods of time without being out there with them.

I have a dog on one of my regular training rides that chases me every time (A German Shepherd). He makes a great coach! Once I thought he was going to nail me and I bailed off the bike and he stopped, cocked his head, wagged his tail and then ambled up to me. He was just having fun chasing me and woofing. ;)

Now he just races me. :D He sees me coming and is waiting at the edge of the property, tail wagging and one I cross the edge of "his" territory, the race is on! The dog is FAST, too!

Gettin him in shape to it seems like. LOL.

On my Saturday ride, there was a big black dog that followed a couple of bikes in front of me for a mile or two. He wasn't chasing, just running in the grass on the far side of the road. We finally got to a rest stop, and the folks there said they had already taken him back home once that day!

Earlier, I'd had a little white fluffy dog following me. I was on one of those very gradual inclines with a slight headwind, and just couldn't speed up anymore to lose him. Finally, after a mile or so, I got a slight downhill and lost him.

The story of being chased by the dog reminds me of the hikers who see the bear, and one puts on his running shoes. The other says, "You can't outrun a bear!". The first says, "I don't have to, I just have to outrun you!"

Sounds like you have the makings of a new dog exercise business. Start advertising that for a couple dollars a day you will ride past there house a few times. Disabled people that can't exercise their pet would be all over it.:D

I could make money off all those bike tires laying around my garage by selling them as chew toys!

I had a Golden Lab that had an old 26" MTB tire as her favorite toy. She would spend hours throwing it in the air and playing catch or tug-o-war with it.
