I just feel like patting myself on the back a bit

Sorry for this but i feel like it so i'm going to.
After pluggin in my milage today from my ride to work into bikejournal i found that i reached over 500 miles total this season!!! It took me a bit less than 3 weeks. My original goal for the season was 5000 miles on the fixed gear. since 422.71 of them were on the fixie i think i'm well on my way. i'd love to get 10,000 total in for the season, maybe that'll end up being my goal for the fixie :D

Thanks for listening to this relatively pointless post.

*pat pat* Nice work smyth, keep it up and you'll hit 5k before you know it.

Air 04-11-08 09:01 AM

Damn - great job!!

Little Darwin 04-11-08 09:27 AM

Great job...

Well deserving of a pat on the back, either self patting or other!!!

steve2k 04-11-08 09:28 AM

I'm at 600 for the season.

It just happens that my season started on Jan 1st, so I've had 15 weeks

Great job Smyth!

smyth 04-11-08 10:12 AM

thanks everyone.
i'm really pleased about it because a lady i work with always complains that she doesn't have the time to excersise, she works a 30 hour week, i work a 60 hour week. So i got to bring up that i hit the 500 hundred mark today. plus by the end of the weekend i should be well over 600, if i get out of work close to ontime today probably close to 700. :D And just by some simple math i should be able to get to the 10,000 mark sometime in october, and if i keep riding the fixed gear(which is what i plan on) i should be able to get to 10,000 on the fixie. now if i could put the coffee down and stop drinking so much beer i'd be looking at some serious weight loss
i might start another journal or something to start tracking my miles on the trainer too. i rode on the rollers through the winter but i have no clue how far/how long, probably the same amount of time per week as i ride now, but i'm not sure what the milage would come out to. i'll have to start doing that.
the part i'm actually most glad about is my average mph is pretty much on par with last year, though on my bike journal it's a bit different but i only started it last year at the end of the season and forgot to put most of my rides in anyway so i'm not sure how accurate that is anyway. (according to bike journal last year my average speed was 15.87, this year it's 13.54. but again only a few rides actually got posted and nothing over 23 miles for a ride so it's fairly easy to keep that pace for that distance, this season has a couple of 60+ mile rides, tough for me to keep up an almost 16 mph pace for that long when i'm riding alone.)

Steve2k, you ride through january often? isn't it freezing over there?
I ride occasionally in the winter, but its only to commute to work, i'm currently building my beater fixed gear(should be done tomorrow) so i'll be able to ride in the winter again.

thanks again to everyone :)

Best praise is self praise, Good job keep it up you'll smash your goal

bigwies 04-11-08 10:49 AM

Nice job. That is a pretty ambitious goal.

I am at about 630 after this morning's commute w/ a goal of 2500 for the year. I started in January as well, but no fixed gear for me.

Good luck.

Great job, Kyle!

I think I am puttering along around 400 miles so far, but I have no better excuse than...well, I don't have a GOOD excuse :) .

So I should get out there and go for a ride and see if I can equal your mileage!

i'm leaving work now going for atleast a 65 miler :D
weather isn't great but it's good enough.

p.s.-thanks again everyone, i actually had a real post earlier but accidently hit the "back" button on the keyboard(idiotically located right near the shift button), i retyped it and toward the end... hit the back button again. then i got angry and decided i'd calm down and type it again later, i'll do it after the ride.) see you guys in a few hours.

p.p.s.- East Hill, as said in your "location," Sheldon,R.I.P., would be riding

Yes, he would be riding, and today, here, the weather is perfect for it.

10,000 in one year is quite a ride. I'm trying to reach the 10,000 mark sometime around 2 years and 9 months.

***pat, pat***

steve2k 04-14-08 06:23 AM

Kyle,
This was my first winter commuting by bike and it wasn't really so bad. A bit cold and a few wet days (we had several days of flooding), but it's only 5 miles each way and there's a hot shower at either end.

10,000 is an incredible target for 7 months, and is almost 5x what I'm aiming for in 12 months. Good luck to you!

Very nice, Kyle. Congratulations.

smyth 04-15-08 10:13 AM

thanks again to everyone, so far since my last post on here i've clocked a bit over 250 miles, 1k might come by the end of the week. i'll get in at least another 50 miles tonight. :D
it's kind of odd how it works out actually, generally i don't plan rides on weekdays, i just commute to work and afterwards on my way home i just figure "why not go further?" and so i go out for a few hours.

again, thanks to all,
kyle

it never is though, i did about 54 last night and once i got back and realized it i just thought,"man, i still feel great, i could've done at least 75." it just one of those things. though once i get over 100 miles i have to worry about my mp3 player dying. haha
