Good saddle for a large rider
Does anyone have advice on good saddles? I'm 6'5" and 295lbs. It's seems like saddles aren't long enough to accommodate me? Has anyone else had this problem? It just doesn't feel like they are built to my scale. I'm not looking for anything to plush, nor am I trying to ride on some weight-weinie piece of carbon fiber. My best experience so far has been with a Nitrox (discontinued cheaper version of a Flight) and with the old suede Unicantors. I've tried Brooks B-16 and B-17 but felt like they were a bit short. Any advice from someone who relates to this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

turbo
Selle Itailia Turbo is the only thing that works for me. I'm no where near 300lbs, but guess I have a large ass. It's got the longish nose of a true racing saddle, but wider and more rounded than typical contemporary crap. Can't understand why they no longer make them. I've been picking up spares from ebay. The San Marco Rolls looks very similar in size and shape, although I never tried one.

I have a Brooks B67 (Sprung) touring saddle. It is slightly wider than the common B17. I am 350# and it has endured my butt for a year now.

Selle AnAtomica Titanico
They really only sell one saddle... the Titanico LD - Second Skin Watershed Leather.
Expensive, worth it.

Good Saddle for a Clydesdales
Dave,
Look at the S3 saddles. I have one that I bought from BikeNashBar. I think it was about $45.00 $50.00.
It's the best I have tried and I have tried several. I started out at 5'9" and 360 lbs. - now I'm 225 lb. and still dropping!

Dave,
Saddles are a religious topic of course. I am larger than you and I currently ride a Selle Italia Turbo Special (old school) and a Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow (new school). I have ridden the Turbo for years and have a NOS spare I bought on EBay.
I bought the Flite primarily out of vanity - I wanted bright red to match the black on my fixie. Red Turbos are rare so I went with the Flite. I was skeptical about a trimmed down saddle with a cutout, but I have found the saddle to be quite comfortable. I am even thinking about replacing the Turbo with a white Flite for my road bike.
As for Brooks, I have never gone down that road because I have always been comfortable on plastic leather style saddles going all the way back to my Schwinn Super LeTour 12.2 in 1978.

Wow, thanks for all the feedback. Based on the comments I think I should elaborate a bit. I am not looking for a wide saddle, nor am I very concerned about the saddle holding up to my weight (though I have broken the rails once). What I'm looking is a long saddle. I've always got my butt hanging off the back of the saddle to make things fit. This is particularly uncomfortable with saddles that flare up at there rear. Leather saddles are even worse. As I said in the original post, I've ridden on a couple of Brooks, and I've also got a Ideal. The problem is that my weight end up on the rivets and steel rail at the rear of the saddle instead of on the tensioned leather, where it should be. I don't know if the new Brooks or the Sprung models are any longer.
I'll check out the suggested models to see how they look. Thanks again for the post. By the way, can anyone relate to this, or do I just have some sort of freakshow pelvis??

seat to far foward
I've got my saddles as far back as they go (probably a bit further than they are intended to go) and I ride with stems in the 120-130mm range. My largest bike has a 62cm top tube. They just don't make bikes long enough for me. Maybe with a custom frame this saddle thing wouldn't be a problem.
