Cheese and jam sandwiches anyone? What's your favourite trail snack?
Went for a ride today on a lovely forest trail.
Stopped for a picnic of cheese and jam sandwiches and fruit.
Took me back to my childhood - a long forgotten treat.
Anyone else got a favourite?

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Hmmm, I love chunks of cheese, and my wife's home made Ginger/Oatmeal Granola bars. No, that recipe is a SECRET, she won't even tell me!

I don't usually carry any food beyond GU or Clif Bars, but nothing tastes better than a PBJ at a rest stop on a Century

Ginger/Oatmeal Granola bars - sound great.
Sure she couldn't be persuaded to share her recipe!!?
Maybe I'll have to try experimenting!

I realized, after watching some Alton Brown, that the big difference between a granola bar and an oatmeal cookie is the moisture level. So I make oatmeal cookies with a lot of dried fruit.
There was a discussion in Foo about Sushi being the miracle recovery food. I don't care if it's true. I want to believe.

How about those scottish delicacies...deep fried haggis and deep fried mars bar. Evil but delicious. Only to be tried once and preferably when drunk

Actually on a non-silly note, I find I cannot eat anything that is fatty. Fig rolls work for me, cereal bars too. Last week I didn't have any on me so i bought a cheese and ham sandwich and an egg and bacon sandwich. I felt so nauseous I had to take a nap to let it settle before getting back on the bike.

Speaking as a Scot - can't say I've tried either, they sound absolutely stomach-churningly awful!
I guess we really do have a bad name for our nutrition or lack of it!!!

I'm sure only the tourists like me eat it as a challenge! Worryingly, they both tasted great but I could feel my arteries hardening. I'm thinking of cycling in scotland next time I go up there for a bit of golfing..just trying to work out a way of carrying a bag of clubs on the bike.

Strong squash (not sugar free), beer, crisps, spaghetti hoops (ring pull lid) and sausages. I haven't tried proper cycling food, I doubt it's as nice as beer and crisps.

PBJ seems to be found at most rest stops of events + fruit of some sort...
I some times bring fig newtons

PB&J and fresh pineapple. Lucky me a Publix is on my favorite route. A good Cuban sandwich post ride will do nicely.

It's probably Reynolds 953, so it's really light.
My innards are tempermental on long rides, so I need to be careful of what I bring. I've figured out through experimenting that I'm fine on a 300 cal/hour combo of an Accel Gel, a Clif Bar, and a half-strength bottle of Accelerade. I throw a couple of Nuun tablets in my plain water bottle, and I'm set. I used that combo to get me through a fairly hilly (6100') 108 miler yesterday in temperatures nearing 90 degrees.
