My Weekend Ride reports with Pics

Saturday was cool cause members of the Socal forum finally decided to visit our trail. I'm always trying to talk them into driving another few minutes to try out our turf. Finally they did and I think they all agree, our trail is nice! They will be back!

We had about 15 riders. 52 miles at a 16.8 average. I held point and managed to keep the entire line together throughout. Well one exception. About 5 fast guys picked it up. I saw the line split so we fell back and reorganized then let the fastguys go. They were back inline near the end. Guess they got tired

The line

The group at the beach stop

Gurlies on the ride

Another line shot

I like this pic but I think the peleton was too fast for the cam

From another camera...Gina

Hey, that's me at the front!

Sunday was another cool ride. I thought Gina would be wiped out from the 52 miler on Saturday. But she managed to pick it up a notch and hold a 17.1 average for today's 42 miler. I rode my Cannondale cause the Lemond BB cartridge is thrashed. It can wait another couple of weeks till the stimulus arrives!

How do you take a pic of the moving line from in front? Do you turn round and snap and hope you don't crash?

I sprint a head then look back. As the group begins to catch up, I take the pic. I look back when I know there aren't any cycilst coming from the opposite direction. So at that point I'm going maybe 15 mph which is no problem. Sometimes I raise the camera over my head or over my shoulder, shoot and hope for a good shot without looking back.

I find it strange that several riders think that because you turn around, you worry about crashing. Not so if you plan it right. But then again I wipe the glass from the rear wheel by placing my hand between the rear wheel and the seat tube. Heard of several crashing while doing it. I've been doing for 10 years, never had a problem. Some can't ride without hands and i can ride for miles and miles. Maybe it's coordination?

Now typing, heck I can barely do that while sitting still in a chair!

A likely story! I love the pics you post but the more I see of them the more I think there must be some kind of socal conspiracy. First you show pics of people "suffering" on 100 milers grinning from ear to ear with joy, then you put up pics of a young chick and claim she is a grandmother of 6! I bet you have a film set on the trail and all the riders are your socal co-conspirators or paid actors.

Pretty much yeah!...In post #2, second pic. you see my Cannondale. The cage on the seat tube has the lower section of a water bottle cut in half. That's where I carry my camera.
I always carry it. I think that's why several riders have wanted to ride with us. They know they are going to get in the pic. The forum members can copy them from the forum, but several non forum riders have asked me to send the pics via email!

I used to make little video clips while riding alongside of the riders, some interviews . But that took too much time and effort with my cheapo computerset up.

BTW, with the camera alone, I have recruited about 10 forum members!
