Nishiki ride report and pics

I've had the last few days off so I decided to work on the Nishiki.
Took it all apart and cleaned and lubed everything.
It's got a few chips but it rides and shifts really nice.
New brake cables and bar tape. the rest I had laying around.
Got about $25 into her so far and thats the point to have a cheap "around town" bike.
One of the tires was cracked but it came with a new tire to replace it.

Wow, that thing looks great! Wish I could get my clunker looking that nice for $25. How's the ride?

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

It's not as great as close ups would reveal. Note the hose clamps holding the water bottle cage. I can't believe it didn't have water bottle braze ons.
Its a blast to ride though.

Wow, nice! How's the hand position selection on the cowhorns? My wife wants them on her Bianchi!

That's old school, in a big, 1970's way......I used to do the same thing. You can have bosses installed for about $20 a pair, but the clamps work pretty well, a lot cheaper.

It almost feels the same as riding the hoods on drop bars.
I had enough bar tape to double it so its nice and thick and cushy.

A Nishiki Olympic was my first "real bike" after my Sting Ray and then Free Spirit days back in my much younger, and thinner days. We shared many many happy miles over a 10 year period.

I ended up giving it to a friend in San Diego when I transfered back to Groton, Ct for instructor duty at Sub School. I had a spiffy Cannondale Black Lightening by then and figured I didn't need it anymore. I may have been much younger and thinner, but was I stupid! lol. I did, hopefully, get someone else riding.

I'm currently cruising every yard sale, thrift shop, craigs list, and such looking for another one to reminisce with. I can only hope to do as well as you have done. Enjoy her, they are great rides.

I was just looking for an older road bike that had aluminum rims and a good brand name, something to ride around town and I've seen a lot of junk around but when I seen this bike I hurried and paid the guy and had it loaded in the car while my wife was still looking at stuff.
I really hope you find what you are looking for and with me the search is half the fun.
Good luck
