My heart rate is really coming down.

I've been riding almost every day for the last month, I ride 125-150 miles a week. It's great to have a heart monitor because you can see trends regarding your heart rate. I did a 32 mile ride today, weeks ago my heart would've been averaging 150-160 but it averaged 127 on this ride.

Getting miles, every day is hard work. I know I don't have to tell *you* guys that. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Anybody else got heart rate stories? How about your resting pulse? I'm gonna take my pulse tomorrow when I wake up and see what my resting pulse is. Cheers!

Before I got a HR monitor and knew anything about training zones, I had a very subjective "1 to 5" scale about how hard I was working. 1 was really taking it easy, barely pedaling and 5 "zombie mode", pedaling so hard you wanted to throw up.

But once you know, for real and in real time what Zone you are in, it's a lot easier to manage energy output and make sure you have enough gas in the tank to get home in one piece.

I started putting in 80 - 90 miles a week two weeks ago and I've seen a drop in my HR too. I was amazed. I didn't think it would happen that fast. I was topping out in the 160's the first few days and now I'm in the 140 - 145 range throughout most of the ride.

OOH - A question for you. I was in Sports Authority and saw a Timex watch that was a Heart Rate Montior - without the chest strap. Has anyone ever tried these?

Also - I have notcied on the elliptical in the gym - that since riding, it takes a lot more to gert my Heart Rate up to 152... A hill orsprint..otherwise I am in 123-130 range.

I have a Garmin Edge 305 with the HR strap. The graphic I posted is from motionbased.com where you can upload Edge data...

Not only heart rate but I've noticed a nice drop in BP. Although I've never had high BP as I got older I got closer to that borderline area. I'm now in a very healthy range, even when completely stressed out with work

Richard, can you overlay speed on that chart?

Michael

The Timex uses a HR monitor strap that goes around your chest

Yeah, but it's hard to look at. This was a recovery ride, so don't goof on my speeds. I was riding a hybrid. With wide tires. And a headwind. My average speed was 12.7

Looks like a fun toy to noodle with. I am guessing you know that the reason your heart rate is dropping with the same intesity of workout, is that you are improving conditioning and therefore are a more efficient "engine".

Good work!

My heart rate doesn't go down, I just get faster
At the training races I always average around 155-160bpm with a max of 185 during the final sprints.
But my heart rate never drops below 150bpm. If it does, I'm not putting enough effort in.

But it really depends of what kind of workout or ride you are doing. Aerobic is a different HR zone then anaerobic for example. For now you are definitely doing the right thing, building miles and exercising every day!

My resting pulse is around 45-48.

Thomas
