1/2 way there, June is over and how are you doing on your goals?
June was very good for me. I got myself back on track with 526 miles of riding over 15 days of riding and 17 total rides. My weight loss continues to lag but this month saw me drop to 211 lbs as of today. So here's my progress toward my goals:
1) Ride 2,000 miles this year - I'm at ~1450 miles today (forgot to write the number down). Just short of 75% complete
2)Get my weight down to 188 lbs (loose 40 lbs) - I'm down 17 pounds today with a 211 lb weight - just over 40% complete.
3) Ride 3 centuries - I'm registered to complete my first full 100 mile ride this Saturday. I'm really looking forward to crossing the first off my list. The next 2 will be in Sept. and October. Soon to be 1/3 complete.
So how are you doing on your goals for the year?

No real goals. I'm at 2,090 miles ytd and my wife at 1,526 so we're cool! On Sunday, some dude with a hot shot racer bike challenged me after we passed him. His rims were more than the price of my entire bike. I spanked his arse so I'm doing ok as far as fitness!

Goals
To get to a dry month might be my first goal.
June was soggy to say the least here in WNY.
One week the rain never let up..7 days.
Flat repairs got so bad that bike shops were selling out of slime.
After a 300 mile month in April and another in May I figured I'd crack 1000 miles with the club in June.
Well, I cracked 2400 but most of it was the to and from riding to save on gas costs.
Have I made any goals?

Thanks to a 16.5 pound ultra stiff CF framed Motobecane I've become a force to be dealt with...so long as we stay under 35 miles (lol)
Where 16 was the norm on the steel Paramount, 19 is now the norm on the CF Moto and hill climbing has begun producing grins rather than groans.
Yesterday on a stretch on road along the southern shore of western lake ontario-with a breeze at the back-I kept with the lead guy..well into 26mph.
color me happy..overweight but happy.

Just returned to cycling last September and didn't really have any set goals for the year other than to ride more. So far I've ridden over 2,000 miles and lost over 30 pounds. At the beginning of the year, I wouldn't have thought to set goals that high for myself. Guess I'll just keep riding.

I love goals!
In April I started riding again after years of fast food and couch potato lifestyle brought my weight up to 326 and introduced me to diabetes.
I set a goal to ride 5 days a week. I usually hit 7 days, although at least two of them are light rides just to have some aerobic activity. My first ride it took me 20 minutes to catch my breath after 3 miles. Now most of my rides are 10-12 miles urban riding, and my only limit is time (I usually only get an hour free). And I dont have to take 20 minutes to recover either :-)
I set a goal to do strength training 3 days a week. I usually hit 4.
I set multiple weight targets, backed by the exercise and radical (but sustainable) diet changes. As of yesterday, I am down 50lbs in 3 months to 276 and I am ahead of goal. My next goal is to take off another 40 before Thanksgiving, and I am on track to exceed!
My reward when I hit 200lbs is a road bike, so I am pretty motivated. I should hit that before spring!

I actually missed this quarters weight goal by half a pound. I started the year at 329. My goal for the end of June was 274. I weighed in this morning at 274.5. I am a little over half way to my year end weight loss goal of 104 pounds.
My riding goal was 200 miles, and I put in 270. My new road bike was a good motivator. My goal is 2000 miles for the year (That is about 1970 more than last year.). I am at 927 miles so far, so I think I am good.

OK Guys -for those of you losing the weight - can you tell us your favorite food trick?
Me: Down 17.5 pouns in 2 months... Rode 300 miles or so in about 13 rides... travelling a ton of work so that is slowing me down!
Trick - Eat a light dinner if on the road. Call me Jared- as I just had a half a subway. Also drink a ton of water! and salads with a little dressing and a lot of balsamic vinegar.
Since i travel for worok and can not ride the bike during the week -
Elliptical - Ride hard and /or fast - 40 minutes 5-6 days a week (when not out on the bike). Also starting some indor biking or stair climbing as well.

I just started back up last week after getting out of the hospital following a near-fatal illness. So only 4 days on the bike, which is around 22 miles so far. I'm trying to pick up spinning on a trainer, but things are slow, due to the aforementioned illness greatly reducing my lung capacity (the suck).
I have stopped drinking beer, soda, coffee and those "energy drinks" and feel better. Consuming around 180oz of water per day (I weigh 345Lbs) helps greatly.
I try to have a bagel or bowl of cereal (Raisin Bran, Shredded Wheat, etc) for breakfast with a glass of natural OJ. Lunch is either a deli sandwich with no mayo and sometimes no cheese, potatoes or Baked Lays. Dinner is one of the following salad+chicken (grilled), soup (leek and potato, or so), PB&J, Buffalo Chicken sandwich(lunch meat, not fried) or a lean steak (with potatoes or mixed veggies).

June for me sucked, it was either very cold, very hot, raining or there was a high wind, I want to beat last year, but it just didn't happen in June, and I fell behind, I was running slightly ahead of last year, but June was about half what I wanted to do, and I am now 53km behind last year, so I need to really pick up the pace. Part of the reason is that my better half got a bike, and I have been missing some rides, to try getting her going. I'm going to try getting in a nice ride tomorrow though (it's Canada Day - so it's a day off, but I need to go to work tomorrow night ). The weather picture looks to be improving though, instead of 12 days of rain in 14, there are 3 days of rain, and I can work that into the schedule.

I have looked at everything that I eat, and tried to find a substitute that is either lower calorie or better for me in some way. Somethings I was not willing to give up, some things have been no big deal. The bggest calorie savings came in the drink department. I used to drink 4-5 glasses of sweat tea a day plus on or 2 soft drinks like Dr. Pepper or root beer. I have eliminated soft drinks completely and my sweet tea consumption is back to 1-2 glasses a day. That has mostly been replaced with water, although I will break it up with Crystal Light sometimes.

It's all about water, removing sugars (like cake, cookies, pie, etc...) and balancing protein/vegetables/starches/fats/fruits.

Ride at least 10 miles a day, average 100 miles a week, eat pretty much anything I want, lose weight. Only real diet changes have been making myself eat something for breakfast (usually only did breakfast a couple of days a week before) and make myself drink lots of water (or unsweetened, decaf iced tea).

*sigh* Well really no effect on weight or size lately and my average seems to be going down. Hopefully it is just the heat or the wind.

3,743.82 miles for the year. Which is 279 hours and 36 minutes of rolling on either a recumbent, road bike or xtracycle. It sounds like alot of exercise at least being 10+ hours a week average.
Tried a few small group rides but I'm not sure if I'll be going often. Another recumbent rider invited me to go and it was all good when he was on the ride but when him and his wife aren't there I don't seem to enjoy myself at all. Maybe it is me or that it is a clique thing or both but it just ends up being me riding along with everyone else side by side talking except me by myself *shrug*. Guess that is what I get for working alone for the last 8 years

Pretty dang good, I'd say. I averaged over 20 miles/day in June (650+ miles) through all kinds of mechanical issues, and also made my 150 mile/week goal for the weeks where I could ride .
My weight is down now about 40 pounds for the year, but I swear it's more. Yesterday I put on my suit for the first time in a month or two, and was actually kind of shocked! My pants are WAY too big, and the jacket is very loose! I'm going to be taking it in for an alteration asap, hoping I can at least get another month or two out of it . I notice that my shirts are all getting pretty baggy, my size 20's are baggy and my size 22's are just too big.
July is looking up as well. I'm only two days into it, but if I can keep up this pace I'll be spot on to hit my mileage and weight-loss goals.

That said, I rode 15 miles on Sunday, and I am capable of getting back to where I was. I am a cyclists, so I'm used to climbing hills of all kinds. I'll get over this one too.

I've always thought that the New Year holiday was the dumbest thing since dog sweaters, and New Year's resolutions not a whole lot better, so I don't have "goals" for "2008". I have things I'm trying to do, now, here, in life.
