Can I pick some brains?

I'd appreciate any opinions from a Clyde perspective (I'm 6' 2", 225 lbs or thereabouts) on a post I've put up in commuting. It is a variation on the usual question, I admit...

(I didn't want to cross post, hence the link - hope that's OK)

From the title I was afraid it was another of those zombie posts. BRRRRRRAAAAAIIIIINNNNNNSSSSS!!!!!

I think what I would do is keep the Dawes put on a trekking handlebars if the drop bars bother you, put on a wider range of gears in back (bigger the rear gears the easier it is to pedal). This should be a fairly inexpensive up grade. If the sleeping policeman bother you (we call them speed bumps in the U.S.) you might look at a suspension seat post or a new seat (not really sure about this though. I have one of those Brooks Imperials on a suspension seat post and I swear when I hit a fair sized bump it feels similar to a kick in the bum).

All these upgrades are pretty inexpensive.
