Am i the biggest road rider ever?
hey all, im a noob on this site and wanted to introduce myself in the appropriate forum for me.
I am 6'8 and 325 lbs, im a BIG guy, ive got a gut and a little bit of love handles, but mostly im just muscular, my legs are huge, i squat 500 lbs for reps, i bench about 400, so im not fat... but i should lose some weight, if you know what im saying.
I used to ride mountain bikes a lot when i lived in pittsburgh, but now i am in Jersey and have gotten into road riding. I was formerly on an old steel Trek with 48 spoke velocity deep V wheelset because i was told it was about the only thing that wouldnt be crushed by me.
I got so sick of that bike that i decided to take a chance on something newer. I picked up a Fuji Rubaix RC in a 64... I was a little worried about the wheels being strong enough, and the carbon taking a beating from my big self, but after about 130 miles (a 65 miler and a few shorter rides) and hitting a few truly unavoidable holes and rough spots, there is not a rattle, squeak, flat spot, bend in wheels.... not even a flat tire (yet).
Im pretty surprised with the durability of the bike, i guess carbon fiber really is all its cracked up to be.
next mission. finding shoes with Look style cleats that will fit me. (so far sidi looks good)

Bariatric Surgery (I had gotten too big to do more than barely move from a pituitary disease), and about 30,0000 miles on the bike. I rode because it hurt the knees too much to walk.
As to the weight loss, 500 calories a day less intake than you burn will drop a pound a week. You're looking at less than a year to drop 50 in a sustainable, safe manner.
What I did was a life saving procedure and last ditch. I was nearly dead.

as i was doing work i polished off a bag of cookies from the vending machine bc im an idiot when it comes to food, and sometimes i just "NEED" it... the working out was never a problem, i just love to eat, and not healthy stuff.

Sometimes I get discouraged. Your story provided me the inspiration I needed to renew my optimism. I try to remember the shape I was in years ago and imagine getting there again but sometimes my old self just seems to be too far over that hill ahead of me. My goal seems a little more possible now. Cracks me when riders do a durability report on wheels afte 130 miles! That's barely a parkinglot test ride!
Oh you'll neeed better wheels down the line. alright! If a wheel doesn't make it past 5k, I'd say that's shabby! Got a few more before writing your durability report!
I bet a 36 Deep V would work for you. 48 is overkill. Got them on our tandem with 400 lbs combined weight, no problems. 14,000 on my roadie (32 hole) with no problems at 245 lbs.

at 320 lbs at pretty high speed with really bad roads i figured the fact taht they are even in one peice is good enough. theyre shimano RS-10's 16 spoke up front and 24 (?) i think in the back if i recall correctly.

Heck, I'm just under 340 now and ride 32hole rims (No, not Deep-V's), I put the stock alexrims back on the bike and still no issue, but still haven't hit that 300mi mark yet (but close).

49. i just picked up a pair of SIDI road shoes. Im getting rid of my old SPD gear. it treated me well for mtb but now on the road i feel im losing out on some power and stability.
i also just found the cycling clothes database above... lots of resources, but cant seem to find anyone that makes LONG Jerseys in XL or XXL... ?

definitly need to put a few more miles on those rims. i had a set of 24 front / 29 back mavic open sport. im 6'0 250. I put about 1000 miles on them they didn't warp until about 900 miles. then they would warp almost every 60 miles and i keep the bike store busy. final gave up when i was out on a ride and 4 days left till i boarded a plane for the livestrong event in San Jose and i stood up to get into a hill and broke a front spoke.
harris cycles, in west newton mass, built me a bomb proof set of mavic open pro 34/ 36 w/ ultegra hubs ( i had to kneel to the shimano coporate machine because it was the hubs in house) i feel it was a great investment to my health and my bike.
