Afraid.....
I started a new job today that has impacted my workout schedule so tomorrow i decided i am going to ride ito work.. 24 miles. tommrrow..
i am soooo afraid of losing alll the work i did just for a job. i refuse to let a car take that away from me. sorry just feeling like i slipped a bit been offf the bike for 3 days due to schedulking... |
Well, that's about a 1.5 hr commute.....each way. Good way to destress. :D
|
Two or three days a week should be good. I wish my schedule would allow me to do my once a week ride to work again.
|
Know what you mean. I hate a job that requires mandatory OT on the weekends. Weekends are mine.............................. for riding!
Get some lights and ride at night after work. Sounds scary at first but actually really nice and peaceful! I use a red blinkie taillight, two headlights (inexpesive models) and reflectorized ankle bands. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...treme/B3-1.jpg |
You could also do a split commute. Is it 24 m. one way? Drive halfway, ride from their to to work and vice versa. Alternatively, drive to work, ride home, ride back, drive home, repeat. Don't forget the pump and flat kit.

i have a nite rider head lamp and two flashing LEDs on the back
got panniers so i am ready evn got a rain coat for tommorrow. |
I was in the same boat last year. I got a new job and due to the level of the position, I was hesitant to ride to work. I stopped commuting, and basically stopped riding, in November then started back up in late February. Thankfully I went to the YMCA over my lunch hours most of the winter so it held the gain-back to a minimum, and conditioning wasn't lost too much.
Now I ride to work every day, and I'll never quit it. Everyone I work with is hugely supportive, and I think I'm more respected now that they know I bike it. |

I ride before work in the wee hours of the morning (4AM-6AM). It is great if you can get up. Nice and quiet with the streets to yourself generally. I feel too tired to ride after work.
|
Heh... I live 2 miles from work and really kind of wish I lived further! I'd take it as a mixed blessing. If you're riding a lot you should have no problem with 24 miles (even twice a day).
Sounds like you're pretty prepared my main advice is to get everything you need on the bike the night before and double check it. Lay your clothes out and don't think about how far you have to go just get on the bike and ride!! Good luck! |
update....
I didnt lay everything out.. that delayed me 45 minute so i got started at 715: got lost 5 times for and nohter 45 minutes.. not giving up totally... but i am going to modify to the mixed model route |

Try ping-ponging. If your commute is too long to tackle at once, try this: drive in one morning, bike home that afternoon, and then pedal in the next morning. This is a great way to get used to bicycle commuting without riding too much too soon.

I ended up cancelling the training program, when following the snowiest winter in 30 years, we have had the wettest summer in 30 years....... |
I am about 24-25 miles from work and once a week (soon to be twice) I put the bike in the truck and drive a little bit and park the truck and ride the last 18.5 miles on the bike. My times are slowly improving but I can ride into work in about an hour and 15 minutes, and it takes me about an hour and a half to get home.
Once I get into a bit better shape I will try to do the whole commute on a bike but the last 3-4 miles on the way home is up rolling hills. Get some lights and drive part way if you don't have time/energy to ride the whole thing. Ruckin |
Its 25 miles one way. on the way home it took me 1 hour 40 minutes.here wehvae good pulic rail but not to this location. But there is a rail stop about 10 miles away. I might do the intermodel...
however today I got access to the gym facilities on site. So i may use that instead of the bike to save time. it' will take me awhile to get the schedule down.this has even impacted my marital arts but i am going to relax and just let the smoke clear. I cant slack off tooo much though next tri is in a few weekends. |
