Just did the Tour de Shore last weekend. Center City Philadelphia to Atlantic City on a fixed gear bike (Specialized Langster with a 48x16 gearing). It can be done.

The route was not so good --- too many miles on poorly maintained shoulders and four-lane roadways. It made me wonder if anyone is agitating for a cross-state bike path. Thoughts?

Just joined the herd here the other day. I ride in/around Philly a lot. Mostly Montgomery and Bucks County. Whereabouts are you from? I'm not familiar with the route, but if its anything like the MS150 route there ain't much diversity in the roads. A lot of flat boring/straight roads. I see you've got a bikeworks jersey. What's your affiliation with them? Been looking for a new road ride and they are on my short list of shops to spend more time in. Later, Eric

The MS150 goes to Cape May, this ride goes to AC. It's not so much the flat/straight part of it I object to, it's feeling like I have to ride on the shoulder to avoid the cars. There were some roads that I would not ever choose to ride on under any circumstance.

I've never done the the City to Shore, so I can't compare, but I'd be interested to know if anyone out there has.

We've got 3 major rides going from Philly to the Shore in the summmer, seems like we've got demonstrated demand for a bicycle friendly route to the shore.

I'm in West Norriton and work in West Chester. I used to live up by Bike Works but now I go to a shop in Exton near my job.

lots of NJ roads are horrible. and the bad part about south jersey is that it i is pretty much flat as a board. there is a ride called The Longest Day, which is i think in April, it goes 208 miles from High Point, NJ down to Cape May, NJ. here's a link to the cue sheet/map/elevation profile for the northern part of the route. If you look at the elevation profile it is pretty crazy but the reason they stop after the northern part is because after that it's pretty much a straight and level line for the rest of the ride. https://www.state.nj.us/transportatio...ntcapemay6.pdf

I wasn't either of the rides you guys mentioned but i live on the Jersey Shore so i know exactly what you both mean about crappy roads, narrow or nonextistant shoulders, and lack of any elevation changes.

Good to meet you too. I live in North Wales and work in King of Prussia so I drive through West Norriton all the time.

Actually the city to shore goes to Ocean city and comes in from the north so I imagine its a lot of the same roads you were on. I've done the city to shore for the last 5 years and I'm signed up again this year. If anyone wants to join a clyde friendly MS team, let me know.

Does any of that look familiar to what you just did on your fixie?

I've spoken to Ed over the winter and seemed to be a good guy. Had them do a bit of a tuneup on my bike after a falling out with my old shop. I'm looking for a new goto shop now. Ed certainly seemed to know what he was talking about when I was in there over the winter. Not sure how busy they are this time of year though.

Oh well. Thanks for the reply. Do you do any other organized rides? I'm planning to do the Lancaster Covered Bridges ride, maybe the SCU Lake Nock Century, and the September BCP ride too. Would love to have some other folks to ride with.
