I'll be dropping 6 pounds in August
...just thought I'd make it a public proclamation to solidify my seriousness about it.
It's been over a year since I really put any effort into losing weight, and things have been pretty stable for me. For the past two weeks I've nearly eliminated high fructose corn syrup from my diet and I think it's helped a lot with my hunger control. So I'm going a step further and doing the calorie counting thing for the month to drop my weight below 230 lbs. Then I'll return to maintenance mode for a while before doing further work.
I'm not looking for replies or encouragement, just putting this out there as a motivational hack.

I read this and thought of Babe Ruth pointing at the stands. Knock one out, zpl.

My guess was that you were buying a new, lighter bike!")
I've made a few gradual changes in my diet too.
From Nacho Cheese Dorito's to plain corn chips & salsa (it's a vegetable, isn't it?) to NO chips.
From boiling 1/2 lb. of hot dogs (for a snack) to making a "real" sandwich with lettuce, cheese and leaner "deli style" meat. It adds up over time. Enough that I didn't gain my "usual" 20 lbs. over the winter!
Keep your eye on the prize!

Thought I'd report on my progress, as today is the deadline for my goal. The goal was "to drop my weight below 230 lbs," and as of this morning I am exactly 230.0 lbs. So I've lost five lbs, although my goal was to drop six. No worries, it will take a few more days, and I will report in again.

Awesome job! If we put out there goals - that are to do something amazing and we come a little short of them - look at all we will have achieved!
I weigh myself tomorrow - hope I lose some pounds this week as well. I have deciedd to only weigh once a week (which is hard for me) and am looking forward to seeing if I lost any this week!

Good job! Providing you make a few simple lifestyle changes such as getting rid of most of the sugars and fats out of your diet and eat reasonable portions, the weight will come off. Keep riding!!
I've managed to lose about 70 pounds since I got back on my bike. I've got about another 10 or 15 before I'm happy. I keep hoping the rain will go away so I can get my mileage back up. Would like to reach my goal weight before the holidays.

To everyone, remember, as you lose fat you also gain muscle. Don't let this be an issue on the scale. At some point, the muscle will overcome the fat and weight will come off a bit easier as it takes more food to keep the muscle happy (or something like that)

229.0 lbs this morning. Goal achieved, only 5 days late.
My plan is now to maintain this for a couple of weeks and then shoot for 225.

I hate this @#$$^$%@ phrase, but it does have truth to it. "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you're still among the stars.". Now don't go getting all astrophysicist on it as the stars, even our sun, are much further than the moon, but it still says that even if you didn't get 6, you got 5, so it's still better than 0.
Or something.
Nice job!

Missb, the way you've been logging miles I'm surprised you haven't turned into a toothpick.

Thanks ScrubJ - Everytime I do one of those long rides I think wow I must be skinny minny size 6 - cause no one can work that hard and not get thin! But alas - I am like the rest of us- 1 or perhaps 2 pounds a week loss. Yay! Also as I bike - I eat banannas and the Fig Newtons... But I think net net the rides will definitely add uo as I slim down.
Congrats again OP! Great Job!
