finally!

for the first time this year, i avg'd 18 mph on a ride. i was at that level this time last year and it took me 4+ months of regular riding to get back to it.

2 days ago i avg'd 17.6 over 52 miles. i didn't think i'd hit 18 this soon after that.

Way to go! That is really great news!

It is always refreshing to see people progressing and getting better!

the finally for me is: I'm finally feeling like a cyclist. I did my longest ride ever (21 miles) yesterday and today 14 hours later I put in a 12 mile easy ride. While doing my easy ride I passed several other "bikers" and I felt some confidence in my biking abilities.

it really is a good feeling to see a progression in your ability.

i think that, if i want to make it to the next level, i need to start riding with groups. i need that external motivation to work harder.

That is fast. I try and average 14-15MPH.

I have a question for you guys that keep track of your average sppeds/distances ect.
The question is what computer are you useing?I am useing an Ascent that I bought & had installed @ Performance bike, however I don't think it's very accurate at all.I just started riding last month & have a very good idea of the distances that I am riding but the distance on the computer is way off,I'm talking a ride that might be only 3 miles is registering at 8 or 9 miles & my speed was like 21mph & I know I wasn't going that fast, after all I'm just your typical fat guy.So what are you guys useing??

dbikingman 08-09-08 01:31 PM

I know computers have to be set for your bike's tire size. Since it was installed by a LBS I would think it should be set correctly. You should check that or take it back to the bike shop and have them check it.

I use a cheap scwhin. ($10 bucks at Wal-Mart) It works fine. Do you have awired or wireless computer? Lots of people have problems with wireless computers. IT's also necessary to have the right wheel size programmed into the computer. Sheldon Brown has a page on calibrating them. There are several common methods for entering the wheel size. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cyclecom...libration.html

It's a wireless computer,I might take it back to the shop & see what they say.
I just want something that will give me a reliable reading of my current & average speed & total distance, nothing else really concerns me.

i use an si 90 wireless on my main bike

hell friggin yeah

maybe i ate extra wheaties today. i decided to do a short ride and try to sprint it (at least a sprint for me). i avg'd 18.7 mph over 20 miles. i forgot to reset my 'puter after going thru town to get to my route. in town i have a mile with a stop light, 3 stop signs and a rr crossing. also, i had to turn around to adjust my stem (i flipped it today). i think i'd have been darn close to 19 mph over the 19 miles i actually sprinted if i remembered to reset it when i started the real ride.

i'm psyched!

77midget 08-12-08 05:49 PM

damn! I felt good last night averaging 17 for my 10 mile ride, though 3 miles of it is up hill....
