Clyde Wheel Build

I know there are some Clyde wheel builders out there. I am assembling parts for my first wheel build and I have some questions, requests for advice, and need for validation (isn't that the BF triumvirate?)

Anyway, -- I am going to use Shimano Ultegra 6600 front and rear hubs laced to Velocity Deep V rims (32H front/36H rear) and I would like to see if anyone can validate some of the hub/spoke specs. (Given this is a pretty standard build, perhaps some of you have actually done this same build?) On the Shimano site I found the following:

Rear Hub:
Flange diameter 38
Center to flange right 35.8
Center to flange left 35.8

Rear Hub:
Flange diameter 45
Center to flange right 20.8
Center to flange left 38.4

Can anyone confirm those? And are the spoke holes 2.4, 2.5 or 2.6 mm?

Assuming those are the correct measurements, I used the “spocalc” tool on Sheldon’s site and came up with spoke lengths of “285.3” for the front, and “281.7” left side rear and “279.9” right side rear. Did I do that right?

Given that, should I use 284 or 286 mm spokes for the front? And should I use a 280 or 282 for the left side rear? (I have seen most recommendations to round down . . . )

Thanks for your help!!

I'd go with DT spokes. Do you have a spoke tension meter? https://www.parktool.com/products/det...t=16&item=TM-1

DT spokes.

Always round down to the nearest whole millimeter when buying spokes. If you have a shorter spoke, you don't run the risk of tightening it down to the end of the threads. Too long, and you can still be below tension (or later, out of true) and not have any threading left to tighten the nipple on.

I just had a 36 hole Deep V laced to Shimano 105 hub. Asked for extra spokes and they were 279 / 281 so it sounds like you're right in the ballpark. I don't know if the 105's are the same size as 6600 but if they are then that would be your confirmation
