Uber clyde needs help !

Uber clyde needs help !
I've got a Trek 800 mountain bike 16 inch frame......since i'm an uber clyde at 400#s, I feel tight in the cockpit meaning I feel like when i ride that I'm on top of the bars. The bike has a straight handle bar, what is the best option.........longer quill stem, riser handlebars like on a hybrid, both ? I don't even know what size of quill stem i have.

How tall are you? If you are over 5'8" or so it probably isn't worth the effort to try and make this one fit you. The Trek 800 may use a quill stem, depending on how old it is.

+1 16 inch frame is pretty small. If you are 5-8 or more you probably need an 18 inch. But get sizing help from your local shop. The pics below are of my 18 inch Trek 950, I have a 30 inch inseam and you can see I have a lot of seat post showing.
+1 Slide the seat back, it is adjustable.
Look at Trekking bars, they are a cheap fix for flat bars and give you a lot of hand positions. Do a search on trekking bars, you can find out a lot about them. The picture below shows my Dirt Research trekking bars, I recommend the Nashbar version, which sell for about $20.

16 inch is a pretty small frame.
