Ride Report: How about an easy paced and terrain Indiana Clyde Ride?

The Wife and I are going to go over and ride the Cardinal Greenway tomorrow, so if you're in driving range of Gaston or Muncie, We'll be at the Gaston Trailhead about 8:00ish in the AM. We'll be going the segment through Muncie to Losantville and back (54 easy miles). Lunch will be in Muncie, by the way. The colors on the trees are about peak, so there should be good photo opportunities, as well. It's also supposed to be a gorgeous day!

Anyone in?

If we can't meet u tomorrow, of course because of short notice, we can arrange a date as well, so chime in here.

Cardinal Greenway Map

Well, I will probably be down in Florida over Spring Break, Down in Okeechobee. Maybe we can ride around the big lake.

For the record, though, this will be Crazylady's first attempt at a half century, so the pace will be very easy. I think I'm going to do it on the Fixed, too. I may opt for the Allez, though, since it's over in the corner sniveling from loneliness right now.

Tom, why dont you set up more local rides, sounds like a great idea. I would drive up to Muncie or even Purdue for one.

Definitely planning some local rides. I'll keep you updated as I get them set up. If you can get some time off over the Summer, I'm planning a multiday I'd like to open up, starting in Fort Wayne and ending in Evansville. I'm trying to get logistics set up for that in form of camping and a support van so we don't have to haul gear.

We could do the lakefront & North Branch bike paths. That would take you from the south shore of Chicago to Highland Park in Lake county IL, with less than 6 miles of lanes shared with vehicles. That would be a 80 mile day.

I'm waiting for some images to be emailed to me. I had video on the bike but the Still Camera accidentally got left in the van. Here's James Deans's grave though, from on the way home.

and a short excerpt of video.

Looks like the Allez won. I'm a little to far to have joined you. I've been to Indiana once, flew into Indianapolis and then drove to Bloomington. Reminded me alot like the county I grew up in. The trees were a different variety, but the terrain and river setting was similar. It was December so things were a bit dead.

Yeah, the Allez threatened to throw itself in front of a bus if I didn't ride it. Nothing worse than a sulky bike.

That's actually one of my former professors I'm chasing, also a C&A lurker. We're headed back to pick up the van in most of this sequence so we can go get crazylady, who developed a very sore knee at the halfway point of 27 miles. She was disappointed she couldn't finish up.

The ride started about an hour later than we anticipated, but worked out nicely.

33℉ when we rolled out. The Balaclava was very nice to have on. I highly recommend one. I got it at Dick's, in Blaze Orange. It's in the hunting department, by the way. It's made of what's called Neofleece. Fleece with a thin barrier of neoprene embedded as a wind barrier and good apparently to arctic conditions. I wore a wind shell, long tights over bibs, a Fleece, jersey and foundation layer and felt pretty good.

I should have worn my full finger gloves though, my fingertips got pretty cold at first. All in all, it was a mostly successful ride.
