A ride in the cold

My second ride on my new bike today, while my gal was at the OSU/Michigan game. I finally learned how to use my gears a little bit, and spun my way up a huge hill near my house. Cruised around downtown of the little suburb near our apartment, and back. Probably only 3 or so miles, but when its 31 degrees, a short ride seems like a long one.

I definitely need to replace the saddle my Fuji came with the one on I put on my MTB. I had a little chain slippage, but I think it either just needs some tension adjustment, or a i didn't have my shifters set quite right.

Yes, from certain temperature and speed there is not too much difference between ice cold air and ice cold water.

+1 for MissB's recommendations. 31 is not terribly cold provided you dress properly and it isn't too windy. We rode yesterday at about 21 degrees without significant discomfort. For the lower unit, rain pants over tights are a good thing IMO.

TechKnowGN - you need to convince me to meet up with you some time! I just moved here (from Sacramento) and haven't been on the bike in about 3 weeks because of the cold. I'm sure with the right equipment I would be just fine though. Taking my first "spin" class at the gym tomorrow though so that should be fun.

Which gym?

My fiancee and I just did a 5k running race in Powell this AM. 28 degrees at start. 29 at end LOL.
