HA! I beat Natbla to start the thread yet again! HA!

Well, did you make your goals last month?

beingtxstate 11-29-08 08:47 AM

My riding of late has waned considerable :(

However, I have still been exercising, in fact I've been running like mad. Averaging ~10-15 miles a week. I'll be running a half marathon in April, so I have been building a running base.

My typical bike riding used to come from commuting, but since my wife's work changed her location to the campus bank branch, I catch the bus with her to school (It is so nice to have that extra time with my honey!) The problem is that catching the bus means I don't ride in :(

So, my goals for the year fell short for sure. Oh well, maybe next year will be different. I have some touring plans for the summer, so then I'll have to get more cycle miles in then...

Redskin8006 11-29-08 09:09 AM

Gettin' There!!

I set a 2K goal for mileage this year. I'm at 1,928. I'll do another 25 or so today so 2,000 will be no problem. As far as weight goes, I gained 6 lbs in November due to reduced mileage, a trip overseas and a course of prednisone. I lost 3 of the 6 lbs this week so I'm guessing it was mostly water weight. The German beer didn't help!! :)

Neil_B 11-29-08 09:27 AM

Goodness, it's still November! I thought today was December 1. I've been working too hard.......

beingtxstate 11-29-08 10:02 AM

Ha, well no wonder you beat Natbla to the punch

I want some of what you've been drinking!:roflmao2:

I don't set monthly goals, but I have over 4500 miles for the year and my goal was 4,000. Gina's close to 3,300 and her goal was 3,000. SO I think we are ok as far as monthly:D

jboyd 11-29-08 11:05 AM

WOW! You guys (& gals) make me feel like CRAP:( It seems like I have rode all year, and I am just about to break over 1000. UGH!

No wonder I'm still fat:notamused:

I do marvel at how some you are able to put such extreme miles under you. I guess it is just a priority issue. I try to ride 3-4 days a week, but my rides are usually 15 miles during the weekdays and and 20-25 on Sat or Sun. I did take 10 weeks off for pneumonia this summer, but it still seems like my miles are low compared to others. I would blame it on these hills, but I am sure there are many who live in much more extreme areas then me who pack up the miles. All I do around here is climb and coast. I did have a minor epiphany last month when I rode to a neighboring city 30 miles away that is all flat and realized that the 30 miles to there was much easier then the 15 miles I do locally.

Ok, I will do better next year. btw...I will be posting my 1000 mile mark before year end, even if I have to do little circles inside my garage:D

Barrettscv 11-29-08 11:32 AM

I've done almost 800 miles since Oct 1st. I'm slooowwwwly losing some weight: about 3 lbs per month.

I'm happy with that ;):p:);)

Herbie53 11-29-08 03:41 PM

Goals? I guess I have one -- lose enough weight to make my catamaran sail faster and win a race or two now and then. I think getting under 200 is pretty aspirational for me though (I'm 6'4", have big legs/arse and really like cheeseburgers). I started at ~245 dropped the first 20 really quick (like in a month) and am now hanging at about 220 and doing between 100 and 150 miles a week on a mix of road and mountain bike.

I think I may need to change my diet to do much better. I suppose the good news is that the cycling is pretty fun on its own so if I lose more great!! If not, still fun.

I think I'll set a goal to be 215 by Jan 1.

Well, it's now REALLY December 1, and I've still been working too hard. That said, I've given up on goals, and possibly cycling, for the year. I say possibly because we may get a stretch of good weather this month, and I might go for a spin. But until then, I'm off two wheels.

bab2000 12-01-08 10:05 AM

The weather has turned quickly here in the eastern Midwest. Rode Saturday afternoon with the Mrs., with temperatures about 45 degrees F, and no wind. By time we returned home it had dropped 15 degrees.

Awoke Sunday AM greeted with ice, and snow accumulation of about 3 inches my side of town. More of the same today.

Never can get enough ride time, so have kept on rider at the ready and plan to use as much as possible.

Also, have Air-dyne as stationary rider plus a treadmill, and also the 5 grand kids to chase around... plus the Mrs;)

CliftonGK1 12-01-08 10:11 AM

I failed miserably at my goal for November. I was planning on a big mileage month; 750 miles. At 11 days in I was up to 217.4 miles, and well on my way to hitting the goal. Then my fiancee got sick and I spent a lot of time not sleeping... In turn, I got sick, and the month went down the toilet from there.

I'm better now, back on the bike, and aiming to make December a reasonable month for mileage with about 400 - 450 being the goal. That will have me finishing out my year around 4250 - 4300 miles.

I think the 750 miles goal will wait until the weather is warmer again; but I will be aiming for the Century-a-Month challenge in 2009, so that will help my overall mileage next year. 400 more than this year's century total.

TechKnowGN 12-01-08 10:12 AM

I didnt fail terribly because I didn't gain weight. But I didn't lose as I had planned either. Hopefully this month will be a lot better.

I got in some miles last month, and with the weather in Ohio that's a major plus. Im shooting for 30 miles in december, so we'll just have to see what happens.

neilfein 12-01-08 10:56 AM

I didn't set a mileage goal, although I did ride over 2k miles. My commuting goals have fallen by the wayside, since my wife and I carpool now. I have done more touring, that was a goal - 5 tours in 2008, 17 days of touring.

I set a goal to get to 185 this year, and I'm still barely sub-clyde. That's now a 2009 goal.

txvintage 12-01-08 11:02 AM

My only goal when I got back on a bike earlier this year was to just be able to do it. There have been some set backs along with some sucess, and whole lot of grins.

I'm working on some pretty ambitous 2009 goals.

natbla 12-02-08 12:33 AM

Well this fall has been tough on me. I'm now working my full-time job and also working an additional 10-20 hours a week doing some consulting. Also, my drive to meet my goals have waned pretty hard since I went over 2000K for the year. I haven't been on a bike for at least 3 weeks and it may actually be 5 (need to look at my journal). My eating descipline has headed south at the same time so I've gained back 10 pounds in the last month. Stress and depression are tough to push thorugh but I hope I can find a way to do it. So baring better weather, it looks like any significant riding is over for the year, and unlike last year I don't have an inside alternative for when I have time but no light or weather makes it unbearable for me to get out.

Anyway, as to my goals:

I'm going to miss my weight loss goal by a good chunk. I had planned on loosing 48-50 ponds this year. I need to fight now to keep the loses to more than 10 after getting as low as 203 in August.

The mileage goal for the year was to ride at least 2000 miles. I did do this with that point in the mileage passed in early September. Unfortunately I had 1800 of it by August. Still I did hit my goal and I'm leaning toward extending it to 2500 next year. This will be made tougher by not having a way to get miles in indoors.

I had one other goal - ride 3 century rides. I managed 1 metric and 1 full century and had registered a 200k ride in October. However, my daughter got very sick the night before and I couldn't see being 100 miles away from home all day while she was that out of it. So I'll give myself 1/3 credit for the 1 one full century. I learned that my life can probably only accommodate 2 major full day events in the schedule each year.

So there is my update going into December

.

10 Wheels 12-02-08 08:35 AM

Goal: Ride Miles
Cooler weather was better than expected.
Four centuries: 11/01, 11/18, 11/20/ 11/22, three in the last week
Six, 80 mile + rides
Two, 70 + rides
Nov. Miles 1159

gotls1 12-02-08 11:09 AM

My only goal for November was to not gain too much weight while on vacation and over the holiday. After two weeks of eating ridiculously (fried foods, desert after most meals, pastries for breakfast, etc.) I amazingly only gained 3lbs. Fortunately we stayed pretty active and took some good hikes. I've already managed to lose one pound since we got back, so I'm pretty darn happy really. :)

</intolerance> 12-02-08 04:27 PM

I met my goals:

1) Ride in my first race, which was the 35-mile version of the El Tour de Tucson. Ride report here.

2) Lose weight. I have lost about 10 pounds in November.

Looking forward to meeting my Dec. goals!

bdinger 12-02-08 04:34 PM

Yeah I blew 'em again. I lost a nominal amount of weight, and rode just enough to have it be considered.. just enough.

Started off December with a bang - then this afternoon I get sick. !#(@!#)!@#!@# I'll be driving home, as I feel like a truck rolled over me, so probably not smart to ride home and risk such a thing really happening.. right?

All I need is 18 miles/day in December to hit 560 miles for the month, and 4,000 for the year. I want it.

Bad.

Actually yeah, I did, I posted 4km, which beat the previous year which was 0. Usually December, January, February all post 0, although the latest (earliest) I rode was January 3rd a few years ago. Depends on the weather, today it's -6℃, there are only 3 things you want to do, when it's -5℃ or colder, curl up in front of a fire, or curl up with your sweetie or preferably both!:D

billydonn 12-05-08 08:33 PM

November: 18 rides, 370 miles, mostly windy. For my level of experience (started in late June), I am very happy with that.

racethenation 12-15-08 04:29 PM

I have been MIA for a few weeks now, so I am just now getting around to posting my goal results. My weight loss goal for November was 8 pounds and I lost 5. My yearly weight loss goal was 104 pounds, and I closed November out at 76 pounds for the year. My riding goal for November was 200 miles, and I did a whopping 77. This is going to cause me to fall short of my 2000 mile goal for the year. I completed number at 1681.

I have fallen short of most of my goals this year, but that is because I set some very aggressive goals for myself this year. I am extremely pleased with where I am right now.

CliftonGK1 12-15-08 04:42 PM

I'm only 146 miles away from my goal of 4000 miles for the year.

And it's because you set such aggressive goals that I nominated you as Clyde of the Year. Welcome back, RTN!
