Sat Ride and Pics

Just a few pics from our 53 miler. Started out nice and cool but sunny. Nice day but a lil breezy. We chatted with a few buds at the coast rest stop then headed back with a couple of guys on our wheel. One a BF'er and the other just a regular on the trail. After the pic I lifted the pace to 21 mph. Figured I'd hold it for a while til Gina complained that I was riding too fast. She never did! This was 45 miles into the ride and I was pushing hard at this point. At one point it felt like my kidneys were going to shoot out the back of my ribcage. I slowed the pae about 1/4 step to recover figuring one of the other guys would move up. Nope, so I resumed the pace after the pain subsided. Darn Gina is getting too strong. I missed the cursing of my name and the pain! She did well and kciked some arse!
Me

Gina

Gina

Got Lemond and Charlie both in one pic!

Gina chillin' at the coast

Riding with the guys, Gina never said 'Uncle!".

Mr. Meaner:
Those are some really great looking trails... wider and smoother than ours here. Lines painted and everything! Goes along a flood canal or something, eh? I also note that there appear to be places to pull over easily if one needed to. Are there ever any pedestrians or are they strictly for bikes?
What percent of your legendary cruises use trails vs roads?

In that last pic, it looks like the hardcore roadies are about to get passed by a girl riding a bike with a basket/number plate on front, with NO helmet.

Beanz,

Is that the Santa Ana trail? I've always wanted to ride from Rancho to the beach but never had the time.

It's an MUP. Bikes, skates, kids, dog walkers, peds even horses at times. Our rides are 90% on this trail and 10% on the road. That's with Gina.

Mine might be 80% trail and 20% road. I ride at night, up mtns and on the trail. A few years back, might have been 20% in the dirt. Right now mostly on the trail cause around home is....well, look at my other thread with the Baldy Rd tunnels. 2,000 ft in 8 miles from our home. Gina's not fond of the climbs and in order to keep her riding, I'd rather travel 30 minutes to get in 50 miles, so we hit the trail.

There are other trails within reach but this one is the best, as you can see!

Yup, spoiled I tell ya!..I had on the underarmour (ghetto version) and was a little warm today!...We do travel 30 minutes to the trailhead. Around our hood, it's not very biker friendly other than the big climbs, so we ride that trail.

Sorry! But if you wear your cycling shoes while shoveling, might be just like riding!

Nice pics Mr.Beanz.

I love the look on Gina's face in the second pic. Its the same determined, mildly pained, "thats right, I'll drop you like everyone else, so dont take it personal" look I've seen in your other pics.

Looks like some pretty good riding on the SART. The only thing we have that remotely resembles it is the 'Van Fleet Trail', thirty miles of paved trail straight through Florida's 'Green Swamp'.
