Who else is 6'1" w/ 34" inseem?
Just wondering what frame sizes you guys who's measurments are like mine. 6'1" tall, 34" inseam measured with the book between the legs yada yada----
I have read so much about frame sizing my eyes are bleeding.
Yes, I know I should go to one of the LBS's---and probably will someday.
And while your at it, do your legs get close to strait on your down stroke, or not? I have read both ways about that too.
Thanks

a 60 fits me well. 6' - 2 " with 34 inseam.
You don't want your legs strait. Will cause knee problems.
Bought a Felt F-80 back in March,
Like the Long reach to the bars.
A Perfect fit for me.

Hi 10 Wheels, thanks for you reply. I have been watching craigslist and ebay for my first road type bike, since I have been riding a Mt. Bike since June our the local bike paths. Am trying to take my time and be patient-----thought I would ride several pre-owned bikes, play things by ear.

Hi,
After a two hour bike fitting session at Get-a-grip Cycles in Chicago I was fitted on a 60cm Soma Double Cross. A custom frame would be made to fit with a slightly smaller size frame.
Anyway, I digress. The leg should never straighten .
I'm 6'0" and have a 34 inseam.

I'm 6'1 with a 32 inseam. I feel more comfortable concerning myself with the length of the toptube(reach). I can raise or lower the saddle to my liking easily. The reach is a little tougher to dial injust right if it's too long.
I ride a 58 Cannondale and a 57 Lemond. The Lemond is a sloping top tube frame and very comfy IMO. Lemond was great right out of the box, Canni took some swapping stems and a few other adjustments. Remember that not all frames share the same geometry so you can be good to go on a 58 Trek but hate the feel of a 58 Cervelo (just an example). Mfrg'ers sometimes use different methods of measuring. Some measure center to center, some maybe center to top.
One method I use for setting saddle height is setting it so that myh leg is straight out when I place my heel on the pedal. Usualy works out just right so that there is a slight bend when my toes are placed in riding position. Then make fine adjustments from there, usually after a long ride to get the real feel.
If the back of your leg hurts (behind knee), then it's too high. If the quads hurt, then it's too low.

Weird to see you say it that way Mr Beanz I only learned that recently for fitting on my bacchetta recumbent.
" Leg length/Pedal reach
While in your riding shoes and with your riding pedals on your bike, sit in your seat and move yourself into riding position (Note: most people find that once they sit in their seat and get ready to ride, they actually end up moving their butt forward a bit on the seat bottom).
Extend your heel to the pedal. When in this position, you should have a comfortable, straight leg. After this, drop down to the ball of your foot in your pedaling position. You should have a slight bend in your knee at this position. (See P.1) The rider P.2 was over extended and needed to move his seat forward a couple of inches. The rider in P.3 was too close and needed to move his seat back several inches. He also needed to recline his seat as well, which you can learn about in section two below. "
I'm 6'2" hm and my inseam was measured last as 35. I have a 58 Fuji Touring Bike and 58 Merlin Road Bike. Also a XL Bacchetta Giro 26 and L Challenge Hurricane if that helps

Legs should never become straight on the down stroke. I am 6'2" 34" inseam. I ride a 59CM Lemond which is very comfortable. Well I ride it when it's not 30 friggin' degrees out!!

I go 6'5" with a 35" inseam. I have 2, 25" Raleighs, a 63 cm Lotus & a 69cm Shogun. I can fit my legs very comfortably to all of them. As Mr. Beanz brought up its the top tube lenght I look for. On all of these as lean over my hands, arms, neck & back flow comfortably across the bike & on to the bars. At 6'1" you're not stretching forward anywhere near me. You can play with handlebar placement to some extent to adjust to your upper body lenght. If the whole bike don't fit, it is no fun to ride

6'1", 34" inseam and I ride a 56. Too small for me, been adjusting non stop my fitting, and there's always a problem. I wish my LBS was a little more considerate and offered me a bigger bike. I was a newbie back then and trusted their suggestion.

6'1" and 34" inseam, that'd be me too.
I've been riding the same Cannondale 58cm since my racing days in the '80s. I love it, I feel like I was bred for it.
My seatpost is close to the limit mark, but I wanted stiffness, stiffness, stiffness. Ergo I wanted the smallest frame (read: shortest tubes) I would fit.
I should add that I have slightly longer than normal arms (based on the long sleeved shirts I have to buy that fit) so I also use a 120mm stem.

6'-2"/34" inseam. I ride an old '84 Trek 620; 56cm seat tube, but long top tube and stays, and a 73deg seat tube angle.

I'm 6' tall with a 33.5" cycling inseam. My road bikes are size 56 Flyte, 57 Saint Tropez, 58 Cannondale, 61 Masi Gran Criterium, and Puch Marco Polo 63. The Puch is way to big but I've still ridden it in comfort for many years. The Flyte is a little small but I'm still getting used to it.

How are we defining inseam? Crotch to floor? Pants leg length? I see all these people shorter than me with legs seemingly (no pun intended) near as long as mine. I'd listed my inseam as 35" but a bike with a 35" seat tube height provides more than ample room for me to stradle. Anyway, to say it again, proper fit is more than seat tube height.

Im 6'4" with a 34" inseam and I ride a 62cm Raleigh. Its fits me perfectly with the saddle adjusted towards the front but unless you have gorilla arms I dont think you will need anything more than a 58 or 60

HI I am 6 2 with inseam 34
HI,
my local LBS says there is many ways to fit a bike, a while ago the used longer frames, and now they may set you up with a 58 and adjust the handle bar height to fit you, there's so many ways to tweak.
He wanted to put me on 58 and mod if needed.

Take your shoes off and stand with your back to a wall and jam a thin hardcover book up betwixt your legs (ok not so much with the jamming but it should be firmly between your legs) now have a (close) friend measure from the top of the book to the floor. That's the number you're looking for. Basically tells you what you can stand over. But there are a lot more factors to bike fit than that.
I am 6' 2" with a 37" inseam. I primarily ride a 66 Rivendell Atlantis (I only took a sip of the kool-aid but this bike fits awesome) and a 62CM IRO Mark V.
