Specialized Sequoia Elite Carbon Seat Post

Just bought a 2008 Spec Sequoia Elite and noticed that it has a carbon seat post. I weigh 290 currently. Should I swap out the seatpost for alum or ti?

Congrats on your new purchase. You've been around these parts long enough to know that pictures are required.

It's hard to say if it will fail or not, it really depends on if you over torque the release. Tis better to error on the side of safety, I'd swap it out for an aluminum one. See if the shop would be willing to straight trade it, that or keep it and sell it on flea-bay to cover the cost of the new one.

Are you sure it's carbon and not carbon-wrapped aluminium?

Congratulations on your new bike.
I love mine. You will love yours.
Ride the bike.
The seat post will be fine.
I am just a few lbs below you (started at a weight above you) and have never had an issue.
Enjoy it!

I sent Specialized a question via their "Interactive FAQ" tool. Their response was that the weight limit was 250 pounds for their carbon seatposts.

No pics. I will not pick it up until Saturday due to my schedule and not being able to get there.

Replace the post. That carbon's too close to your femoral artery, I reckon.

I second that.... and, again, you cannot go wrong with a Thomson post. There are other good choices I'm sure.

I have a Ritchey Comp and a Ritchey WCS seatpost for sale if you need a setback post (PM me). If you don't need setback then the Elite is a shoe-in.
